30something native of Phoenix!! You don't find too many people born and raised here, but AZ is my home and I love it!! Having grown up with my maternal grandparents, I learned my way around a kitchen fast. Pretty much, I've been cooking and baking since before I was tall enough to see over my grandmother's kitchen counter. Memories of standing on a chair or step stool assisting her in the kitchen with various recipes. Fondest would have to be associated with the holidays. They grandparents had a huge pecan tree so lots of pecan pies and other recipes that called for nuts were often baked. Not to mention all the southern cooking that was done. The recipes that my grams has passed down to me I've adjusted to make a little healthier without skimping on the flavor!
My favorite things to cook
The grill and cast iron skillets gets a good workout in our household - thick cut strip steaks seasoned with ONLY kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper and salmon with dill, parsley, and lemon. Also, can't forget the southern roots: oven-fried chicken, corn bread (johnny cake), ham-hocks and beans, pulled pork with bbq sauce, and sweet tea!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking thanksgiving dinner for the family - turkey or brisket with all the sides! Also, baking during the holidays.
A family tradition with my Husband for the holidays:
Christmas Eve - Hot spiced cider and noshing on Brie, Wensleydale, and crackers. Christmas Morning - French Toast, oven baked bacon, and eggs.
My cooking triumphs
Taking over the holiday cooking 10+ years ago!
My cooking tragedies
Everyone makes mistakes - but learning from them makes you a better cook!
