Pastitsio II

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2003
This is an authentic and wonderful recipe, and I have been making it for years. It is out of Tess Mallos’s The Complete Middle Eastern Cookbook. A really wonderful Middle Eastern Cookbook. At the end of this recipe in the last part of the instructions she has, “Sprinkle remaining cheese on top” but she left the amount out. It is 1/2 cup.

Cranberry Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2004
Yummy! I made a couple of changes to the recipe: Replaced water for cranberries with the same amount of orange juice. (I love cranberries and orange.) Decreased the amount of ground ginger to 1/2 teaspoon. After cooling a bit I tried one... then two... then ... well it wasn't pretty. I had them set out for Thanksgiving as something for people to grab and munch.. and they vanished quickly. (One person kept putting whipped cream on his. I mention that as it might be considered a serving suggestion.)

Spinach-Apple Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2004
This is a Good salad... I almost hesitated making it when I first saw the "single star" rating someone else gave it then I saw that they wrote a glowing review. Wonderful and refreshing I served this as an opener to a grilled pork dinner I made.

Zucchini Soup I

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2003
YUM! Wonderful recipe on hot summer day. To go with a meal I was preparing I omitted herbs (thyme, rosemary, basil, and dill weed) and instead used 1 tablespoon curry powder and 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin. This gave me a wonderful chilled curried zucchini soup! Yummy the original way and with the curried variation. I will make this many times in the future!

Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
Being a bit lazy I purchased the preshredded cabbage from the produce section of the grocery store (you know- coleslaw mix) and used it instead of shredding my own cabbage. Great and SUPER FAST that way! (I also halved the recipe based on other reviews about large quantities.) Thanks for an easy alternative!

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
Okay, I have can make a deboned wild duck stuffed with a wonderful wild rice, cranberry orange stuffing... on and on... I have NEVER been exposed to much of the basic midwestern/southern foods such as sausage-gravy. Well... now I am engaged to a meat and potatoes midwestern guy who doesn't want my "High brow" cooking but wants things like this. I made this recipe and with trepidation served it to my very picky meat and potatoes guy. VOILA!!! Success!!! So thank you much for this recipe it has redeemed me in my man's eyes... still not interested in raspberry chocolate truffle torte... Oh, well!
