About this Cook
I just love to cook and although I considered going to culinary school, I realized that I enjoy cooking as a way to relax...not for my job! I'm not much of a baker though. I'm back in school for graphic design and also love spending time outside in the summer gardening, bbq-ing, or just relaxing.
My favorite things to cook
I'm the worst at picking favorites...I just can't do it! I will say that I try to cook on the grill every chance I get during the summer.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Once or twice a year, the women in the family get together to make Lebanese stuffed grape leaves. My Grandma got the recipe from a Lebanese friend back in the 50's. We make HUGE batches and everyone helps form the filling then rolling it in the delicious salty leaves. Despite the fact that we make so much, they never last long!
My cooking triumphs
I like to try so many different cooking techniques and ethnic cuisines; so if I manage to get one just right on the first try, I feel pretty darn good about myself. (I can tell when my guinea pig husband truly enjoys a new dish or if he's just being sweet and pretending it's the best thing he's ever had)
My cooking tragedies
When I was still in my fledgling cooking era, I bragged to everyone at work that I could make an awesome lasagna. To save time, I used no boil noodles and didn't follow the directions exactly. Then, I realized I didn't have enough mozzarella cheese, so I thought I'd add a little cheddar (yikes). It was quite possibly the worst tasting lasagna anyone could have ever made. I was pretty embarrassed; especially since I was tooting my own horn about how great it was supposed to be.

Buttercream Icing
I made four batches of this to frost a TON of cupcakes for a large baby shower and it was great! I piped it on the cupcakes and it set up and held its shape perfectly. Yes, it was sweet, but it tasted the way good quality frosting should, IMHO. Thanks for sharing an easy but wonderful recipe.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but this was too awesome not to not leave feedback. Like others, I was a little hesitant to cook the meatballs without browning them first but I've always hated the process of browning the first because it takes constant attention and usually has to be in several batches. I don't regret not browning them one bit: they were tender and moist but still held together really well. That said about the delicious meatballs, the true star of the show is the sauce. It has such a fresh, bright flavor and nice chunky texture: I could eat it with a spoon like soup! AND, as a matter of fact, I've added it to soups, used it for lasagna, on homemade pizza and on top of ravioli. I'll never buy commercially prepared sauce again! I've made this at least six time since I originally made the spaghetti and meatballs two months ago. The ONLY change I made (and this is just personal preference) was to add a little oregano and a few flakes of red pepper for some kick. Thank you for sharing this great recipe!

Quick Chinese Chicken Salad
I followed this recipe exactly as stated and then added the following: Before dressing: bamboo shoots, dried cranberries and scallions. After mixing everything with the dressing, I topped it with the fried rice noodles you get in a can. This was so tasty and a great way to get your greens and also use up any extra chicken. We'll make it again.
