My Kid's Favorite Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2007
My kids (10 yr. old) and husband did not care for this. I didn't mind it, but it came out "stewed" and just okay. Won't be making again.

Sauteed Garlic Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
I saute asparagus all the time, but to make this recipie into a 5* I use olive oil that will not burn so easily, a tbsp. of balsamic vinegar and a tbsp. of minced garlic and don't cover it as it'll get soggy. I use a teflon frying pan and stir fry/toss it for 3 - 4 minutes. When it's ready, I sprinkle with fresh grated parmasen cheese, salt and pepper.

Spaghetti Ham Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
I scaled this down to 8 servings to fit in a 9x13 pan and only used one can of soup. I also added more ham, sauted the onions and mushrooms with garlic, but even with these changes, this was only a 3* rating although my husband and I liked it, my kids picked through it. All seasonings should be doubled.

Mama's Best Broiled Tomato Sandwich

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2006
Awesome. I used an unsliced artisan grain bread and after slicing, toasted it til golden under the broiler. I marinated the tomatoes (used half the oil)for about a half hour which was too much and they got a bit soggy, so next time I'll cut it back to 10-15 minutes. I used Kraft Parmesan in the mayo and fresh grated asiago on top. It will now become a staple.

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Not sure what all the raving was about, for the average/okay taste, this was not worth all the work. Sorry.

Stuffed Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2006
Awesome and if you don't have the prepared dip, use one 500 ml (16 0z) tub of light sour cream and one pkg. of onion soup mix, let sit to absorb flavors and add cheese. Great and really hold the heat.

Great Green Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2006
Only marginal as it was too tart and lost the flavour of the avocado. Wouldn't make again.

Bodacious Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2006
This was quite good, but the dressing was too watery. You need to add half the liquid and then adjust to your liking after all the veggies have been added.

Tomato Sauce with Sausage

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2006
Nice pasta dish but way too much oil. I sauted my onion, garlic and one finely grated carrot (anyway to get extra nutrition into my finicky boys) in about 2 tbsps. of oil and 1 tbsp. of butter. I also added 2 tsp. each of oregano and thyme and 1/3 c. of half and half for a sligtly rose type sauce.

Baklava

Reviewed: May 26, 2006
This was amazing. I added an extra cinnamon stick and the juice of 1/2 lemon and then put the lemon into the sauce while it cooked. I got rave reviews from a friend that used to own a restaurant and sold baklava.

Best Hamburger Ever

Reviewed: May 22, 2006
Very good and tasty. I only had cheddar cheese and melted it on top rather than in the burgers. I also added about 2 tbsp. finely ground bread crumbs to hold the meat together. Kids loved them.

Classic Tiramisu

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2006
I had to make this dessert three hours before a dinner party, so made the ladyfingers off this site which were easy. If you're using a springform pan only make them 3 - 4 inches long or you'll be doing a lot of trimming. It's understandable that it wasn't quite set five hours later when we ate, but even though I added 1/4 c. of Kahlua to the batter in addition to brushing the ladyfingers, I found it had a wonderful consistency, but needed more flavor. I would try this again and add some cocoa (1 tbsp perhaps)during the mixing stage, prior to folding the two batters together.

Cream of Cauliflower Soup I

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2006
Very Good. I scaled down the milk/whipping cream liquid to 1 c. half & half for the right consistency for me. My opinion is that another c. would have made the soup too watery. Start off with half and add to your liking.

Cauliflower and Broccoli Bake

Not sure what the fuss is about. It's just cauliflower with bread crumbs and grated cheese, and not enough cheese. I ate it, but wouldn't make again.
