About this Cook
I have been cooking since about age five, which is also long as I have been playing piano! I am the oldest of five children and my mom stayed at home and cooked all the time. She inspired me to cook and I did so, working my way up to her recipes. She gave me a box of our family recipes when I left for college. I have been depending on those recipes, ones I have created, and other cookbooks until now. So I thought I would take the leap and and join this website.
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake most and my family loves to wake up to my home made chocolate chip scones hot from the oven. Apart from chocolate chip cookies, I usually use mini chocolate chips since they blend into baked goods better than large chips.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom showed me by example how to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner, so I guess that is my biggest tradition. I know how to cook all the dishes from memory. I also have great recipes for pie crust and apple pie fixings, so I will share those sometime.
My cooking triumphs
My great apple pies made from scratch. I will enter one in the county fair next year.
My cooking tragedies
I have had some casserole tragedies that have happened with careless mixing of flavors.

Silver's Savory Chicken and Broccoli Casserole
Be aware it will take longer than 20 min. to assemble the ingredients for this recipe. It took me 45 min. to make this from scratch. If you are making from scratch and don't have ingredients precooked and precut, it may take that long. This could use a larger amount of the white sauce portion and less cheese. It is not a favorite with our family.

World's Best Peanut Butter Fudge
This is a great fudge recipe-it melts in the mouth. I made it for both our sons' junior high teachers, so I made three batches. They stirred while I added in the marshmallow creme and peanut butter. I had to have those measured out beforehand so I could add them quickly. Adding the flour at the end ensured a nice texture.
