My sister told me a recipe this morning I must try! I love shrimp and grits and, although I am from Louisiana, I have never had them together. It sounds delicious. Just saute shrimp, onion, and garlic in butter. Cook grits, add cheese and stir until
cheese melts and serve shrimp on top. …
I am a teacher at the christian school where my children attend. My children are ages 16, 12, and 11. I love my husband and children and love to cook for them. I am always finding new ways to create dishes.
My favorite things to cook
Cajun cuisine is my favorite. Growing up in Louisiana has made me partial to the seafood and fried foods. Desserts are my specialty. I like to cook for crowds and love to serve people. I enjoy hosting all kinds of parties-tea parties with finger foods and bar-b-Ques with bon fires.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Love boiling crawfish with the family!
My cooking triumphs
Making gravy! For years after I was married I tried gravy every way I was told and it never worked. It was mostly like dumplings it was so lumpy. One day I met a lady who told me the simplest solution. "All you do is add the same amount of oil as flour and brown the flour then add your liquid." Been doing it for many moons now...
My cooking tragedies
One September day I was in the kitchen getting ready for supper. I had started the flour and oil for gravy and left the room-and forgot! I heard crackling and popping and ran into the kitchen to find the stove, microwave above, and cabinets engulfed in flames. I screamed to my children to get their father while I began to spray the fire with the fire extinguisher. The fire was put out and the damage was done. We had to redo only a couple of cabinets, paint the ceiling, and get a new range and microwave. Thank God it was minimal damage! My father sells fire extinguishers and he had just given us that one...I will never be without an extinguisher and I will never walk out of the kitchen while cooking.
