About this Cook
I am a writer by nature, although not by employment. Ah, to write is my dream and I know I will make it big some day. In the meantime I love spending time with my daughter and grandsons, friends and other family. And I love cooking for them all. I've lived many places, including Italy for three years and I learned so much while I was there. I grew up in a household that encouraged me to try just about every type of food and so I'm always game for new things!
My favorite things to cook
Anything spicy - I LOVE hot foods regardless of whether it is Mexican, Thai, Indian or anything else. Throwing in some pepper improves just about anything in my opinon. I really love the combination of sweet and spicy together, as in salsa's and such.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father was the 'exotic' cook in our house and so I learned to be adventurous from him. "What's that daddy?" I would say and the next thing I knew I might have a mouthful of rattlesnake meat or bear sausage or just about anything strange and unusual you can imagine. I do tend to stay away from those exotic meats now, LOL, but I will still try lots of different foods.
My cooking triumphs
I have been told I make the best potato salad (my mom's recipe) and guacamole around. Nothing really special about those things, I just think it's all the love I throw in.
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was living in Italy my friend and I wanted some guacamole. We didn't get good avocado's very often and the only ones we could find were like bricks. A cookbook I had said you could pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to soften them. Can we say disaster? Terrible - an avocado should NEVER be microwaved, under any circumstances, no matter how desperate you might be!!!

Tiffany's Sweet and Spicy Meatballs
Tried this one last night, my grandson wanted to make something and this seemed simple for him. We didn't care for it.

French Baguettes
This is a great bread recipe. I only give it 4 stars for method, but it is a winner on flavor. I used 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour as I was out of bread flour. I did it without a bread machine as well. For that perfect crust I used a method that I learned when I lived in Italy; after the bread is split on top and risen, I lightly spritz the loaves with a fine mist of water. This provides the crust that makes the recipe the best.

Herbed Dumplings
I tried this recipe for the first time today and was very pleased. Luckily, I had read some of the reviews and cut back on the salt, but I was a bit suspicious of the amount to begin with and very likely would have cut it back anyway. These dumplings were light and delicious, very enjoyable. I added two tablespoons of sour cream with the milk because we enjoy that taste. I have to say one thing though, I used a tablespoon and a half cookie scoop to drop the dough in and I still got 22 dumplings. I can't imagine how you could 'drop by rounded tablespoons' would only yield 6 dumplings. I almost doubled the recipe - thank goodness I didn't.
