Garlic Crouton Slices

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2013
Diced day-old rolls into 2" cubes. Lots more garlic & onion powder 'cause our house likes that. Baked 10-11 minutes. Consistency of cheese puffs, but garlic!

Kofta Kebabs

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
Too much work! Funny way to start a 5-star review, but I had to rate it that after tasting them! I used all lamb & made them into little oval patties that I baked on a broiler pan (so grease would drip down). This was unnecessary as there wasn't much grease. And I think they'd be even better fried or on a grill. Next time: no mincing onion nor mashing garlic -- I'll just do that in the food processor. Well worth making & freezing for future pita pocket stuffers.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2012
I used canned pumpkin & ground my spices. Next time I used Aunt Jemima & pumpkin pie spice blend. Fluffy with the one egg. Good flavor. We had them for lunch with bacon. I'd do it again, though I don;t often make pancakes.

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2012
Maybe next time I'd use raw shrimp & let the sauce simmer longer. Maybe I'd also double the sauce, or add more red pepper flakes. It was good as written and incredibly fast to the table!

Mother's Date Dips from 1940's

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2011
Maybe memories of growing up with these cookies added to the appreciation of them. Coming to them fresh, they were expensive, a lot of work, and nothing spectacular. The thick batter was more like thin dough and trying to dip the dates didn't get them coated. If I put more batter on them, it just slid off in the oven. These were just not worth the money and time. I'd rather stuff the dates with walnut halves and roll them in sugar. Sorry.

Veal Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
Very good. I chunked ions, carrots & celery and put them in a pressure cooker with 1/2 cup veal stock and a dash of dried oregano. As soon as it reached pressure I turned. Browned the veal in an iron frying pan and added it to the vegetables. Cooked paprika in the pan, then deglazed with 1/2 cup water. Added to the open pressure cooker along with the tomato sauce. Simmered for 1-1/2 hours. Excellent.

Best Ever Chocolate Cutout Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
I followed the suggestions & added an extra egg yolk and some cinnamon. Rolled the dough 1/4" and baked on parchment for 7 minutes. Great flavor, chewy texture but they broke easily, even after glazing them with a thin icing. Next time I'll use a sturdier cutout design, or just cut into rounds. Will add to my collection.
