Beef Tenderloin With Roasted Shallots

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2010
This is my first review. I registered just so that i could say how incredible this dish was. My mother inlaw and I set the smoke alarm off twice cooking this but it was well worth it. I followed the recipe exactly and it was by far the the most tender flavorful cut of beef we had ever had. Everyone went on and on about how amazing it was. My only word of caution would be to know what you are about to spend at the grocery store. I had to go to 3 stores before i found a kroger that had beef tenderloin in stock. I asked them to cut 3lbs and it came to about $70! After the I got over the initial shock, though i have to admit it was well worth it. Truly an amazing dinner, everyone loved it.

Carrot Souffle

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
everyone enjoyed this recipe but honestly i don't think any realized it was carrot and not sweet potato. i cut back on the sugar by half and it was still very sweet for our tastes. i used fresh organic carrots but ended up having to put them in the food processor to get the consistency right, even after boiling them for a very long time there were still large chunks that the mixer didn't seem to reduce.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2011
I made these for the first time tonight and they turned out great. I didn't read closely and sugared the first batch before i baked them instead of after but they were still ok. i took other reviewer's advice: added a little milk and it made the dough the perfect consistency, ground the walnuts a little finer in the food processor, and rolled them in regular sugar then twice in powdered sugar. these were quick and easy to make although i did end up with an inch of powdered sugar all over my kitchen...

Chicken with Quinoa and Veggies

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2012
Great recipe! We made it exactly according to recipe. This was way better than we expected just looking at the recipe. The feta and lime makes an excellent light sauce. This recipe is super easy, it only took a few minutes to throw it together. We loved it and will be adding this to the weekly rotation!

There were at least 3 corn puddings at Thanksgiving this year, I thought this was definitely the best of all.

Brussels Sprouts in a Sherry Bacon Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
I finally got some of the brussel sprout haters in my family to try them thanks to this recipe. Turns out the trick was to smother them in bacon and booze. This was very rich but also very good.

Mincemeat Cobbler

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
This did not rise or bubble at all for me, just turned out to be a flour square floating on a half inch of mincemeat. I gave it three stars since it could have been my fault, we had a lot going on int he kitchen for Thanksgiving that day.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
This was my first turkey ever. I smothered it with butter as others suggested and put it in a bag. I doubled it because we had a 23 pounder and while it took a lot longer to cook than expected it did turn out very juicy and flavorful.

Roasted Squash Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2014
WOW this soup is amazing! I followed the recipe exactly, except that i ran out of veg broth and had to use 1 cup chicken broth. I was able to puree everything in my vita-mix in 2 batches, quick and easy. 45 minutes was the perfect time for the squash to roast for me. the tops were nice and caramelized and the flesh spooned right out. There is a wonderful balance of sweet and savory in this soup. Don't leave out the Cayenne, i used about 1/8 tsp and it's not spicy at all just gives a little extra oomph to the curry. I'm going to take the advice of other reviewers and freeze some and add goat cheese when serving. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks for a great recipe!
