I love to cook for my family. My husband and I have four grown kids, 6 grandkids, and I have lots of siblings (who have lots of kids)and my mom, so there's always a crowd. I often get requests to cook for family graduation parties, weddings, etc.
My favorite things to cook
Meals for family get togethers. I usually take requests from the birthday person or sometimes they just say "choose something...your cooking is all good." Swedish meatballs, barbecued pork ribs and chicken, cabbage rolls, Gourmet chicken casserole, Indian Tacos, Fry bread, pumpkin cheescake, and cheesy apple pie are some of my most requested. We hand harvest wild rice and usually have 300 lbs. or so every season of finished rice to sell and use. We have wild rice at least 3 times a week in one form or another. I am working on submitting some of my wild rice recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
With holiday meals, the hostess/host usually cook the meat and potatoes and everyone else brings the rest. We have a large family so there's always alot of stuff. On Christmas Eve we like wild rice soup with all kinds of appetizers first, then bring out the candy and cookies after presents have been opened. On New Years Eve day I make bullets and bangs, which is meatballs and frybread, Turtle Mountain Style.
My cooking triumphs
Baking 6 dozen buns on the same morning as my son's graduation...everything was perfect!
My cooking tragedies
I once made bbq ribs for my husband's cousin's graduation and the butcher shop ordered the wrong kind of riblets the ones with the flat bones instead of the small round bones). I thought they were tough and awful, but everyone seemed to like them so I guess it wasnt so bad.
