This is a great recipe! We used beef backstrap, because I didn't have any venison. We were also out of apple cider and I was too lazy to run to the store. However, I've been a big fan of Austin's Own BBQ Sauce and buy it by the case at Costco. This is what we used and it was delicious! Couple of side notes; you can cut your bacon in half to help make it go a little further. I also used metal skewers instead of tooth picks. I'm not suggesting a change, because this recipe stands perfectly on it's own.

This turned out fabulous! We needed a mushroom soup base for a slow cooker venison recipe and I snuck a taste before I sent it to the crock pot. Yum! On a side note people... Don't listen to the rants of other reviewers who change the recipe around. It's self serving an quite childish. I only pay attention to those that follow the recipe and rate it accordingly.

Made this last night and every member of the family loved this recipe. Followed member "resaleapparel'" suggestion and cooked these on a wire rack. I also added a small amount of cayenne pepper to the bread crumb mix, which gave these guys a little kick. This will become a staple in our busy evening meal plan. Thanks for sharing!

Made this last night and the entire family loved it. This is a great base that can be adjusted to one's own taste or savored just the way it is. A keeper for sure. Allow for a lot of prep time. Took me about 45 minutes to assemble.

I've made this twice and it's gone over very, very well. Neither time did I use cottage cheese and the second time I cut the cooking time to 45 minutes. Now if my teenage boys would show appreciation for my efforts I would truly be happy.

Very nice recipe. I used a dutch oven which worked quite well. Served with horseradish sauce as well.

This was a huge hot for the family. I used sweet paprika instead of the the hot variety. In the end, I ended up printing this one off for one of our guests.

This was a hit for the family on New Years Day. We had a group of ten and it fed them all. I wish I would have followed the advice of several other writers and added additional raisins. I substituted Tofutti for the cream cheese and used unsweetened almond milk instead of the half-and-half cream. We have a couple of boys that can't have milk protein.

OK, I may be biased, but I did whip this up for friends and co-workers and they raved. I guess I measure the success of a recipe of how many people request it after trying.

This was outstanding... I bit of work, but really yummy. One that will remain as a staple Chicken and Dumpling recipe.

Made this last night and although it was a hit with me, the wife and kids were not as impressed. Maybe because they don't have any Irish in them? Nonetheless, it brought back great memories.
