About this Cook
I have been baking cookies since I was 10 years old. I come from a family of 8, so we always doubled and tripled recipes. I still do to this day, although I have only one son! I am known as the cookie lady wherever I go, as I seem to have a knack for making sweets (much to the chagrin of my figure)...

My favorite family cooking traditions
I always helped my Bohemian/Italian grandmother cook and bake. Raw potato dumplings were my favorite, as were egg white pancakes, spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs, and her famous nutroll!
My cooking triumphs
Baking is my forte, but cooking is my downfall, as I can't cook very well at all. I have a huge sweet tooth, so I am always trying new and creative sweet recipes. Unusual ingredients are fun to play with, so I tried maple sugar on my now infamous "Vermont Crackles" which is featured in the cookbook.
My cooking tragedies
Forgetting to clean out a turkey for Thanksgiving and cooking the entire thing! Not knowing to add anything but ground meat to meatloaf (way back when). Frying has never turned out well for me. I also tried to make low fat and low calories sweets, and I don't think sweets were meant to be low anything!

Ultimate Maple Snickerdoodles
I am the owner of this recipe and have modified it even more for perfection every time: 3/4 cup butter 1/4 cup shortening 1-1/2 cups white sugar 6 Tbsp GRADE B maple syrup (it's worth it!) 2 Large Eggs 3 tsp Baking Powder 1/2 tsp Baking Soda 2 tsp Cinnamon 3 cups Flour (less if too dry, more if too sticky) 1/2 cup Maple Sugar (or cinnamon sugar or a combination of both, which is what I use) This recipe doubles beautifully! Don't overbake!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
These were good, but not great. They were way too sweet. I added 1/2 cup more flour to ensure they did not flatten and that worked well. I would like to try again with less sugar and see how they come out. Also need more baking soda and salt. I did like being able to use so much dough in one cookie--makes the task much quicker!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
I used only one pkg of vanilla pudding and it was plenty. Gave the cookies good flavor, which I usually try doing with vanilla bean and vanilla extract, but it made the cookie a little more cakey than I'd like. I am now on a mission to find another ingredient that will flavor the cookie dough a bit more without the cakiness. I've tried maple syrup (no) and butternut extract (pretty good). I'm still searching, though...
