Chocolate Cobbler

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2015
I made this for my grown children and my dad, this is the best chocolate cobbler I have ever had. My sons gf asks me to make it all the time. I seen a review that stated the measurments were off, I am sorry but they are spot on! Maybe she misread the directions or doubled the recipe but the directions are not to scale so you need to keep that in mind when doubling this recipe. I always have to double this one. The onlything I did differently was to add some salt about a 1/4 teaspoon.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2013
I decided to try this recipe because I like soft cookies not the crispy ones but I also like my oatmeal cookies with a bit of spice to them. So I had to tweak it to my liking. The only thing I can say bad about this recipe is that for some reason salt was omitted in the recipe. I added a tsp of salt, increased the cinnamon by one tsp then added 1/2 tsp of nutmeg and 1/8 tsp of allspice. I was out of baking soda so I used 4 tsp of baking powder and 1 tsp cream of tarter as a substitute and I did not use maragine I always try to use real butter. The cookies came really good. The were not flat and they were nice and soft like I like them. I did not get 6 dozen or more I actually only got 5 dozen but maybe I made mine a little bigger than the recipe called for. All in all this is a keeper! Thanks for sharing.

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
I love pumpkin but I needed a different way of using it besides making pies. I came across this recipe and thought how strange to use pumpkin in chili but what the heck I will try it. I read the reviews and took the advice and tweak it by adding black beans, corn red bell pepper, orange bell pepper,(you can just use 1/2 of orange & red bell peppers) 2 cups of spicy tomato juice, more chili powder, corriander, cumin, (1 tsp each) 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp allspice, bay leaves and honey to taste. It turned out great!! The kids loved it. My son likes it spicier my daughter and I like it on the sweet side. With this recipe you can do either just by adjusting the amount of chili powder and the honey. Then I made this for a potluck and I bet 8 or 9 ppl asked for the recipe! Thanks for sharing!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
OMG! OMG! THIS IS THE BEST BANANA BREAD I HAVE EVER HAD! I was unable to sleep last night so I got up at 3:30 am & decided to make this banana bread. It's been on my mind for a few days now. I read the reviews & made some of my own adjustments which were; I added 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp allspice and 1 tsp vanilla. Other than these additions I followed the recipe to the tee. Also from the reviews I thought that the bread would be very dense, & the banana flavoring to over powering however, mine came out light and fluffy & the flavoring was just PERFECT! I was very careful not to over mix, make sure you blend just til the batter is moist. Now I am headed back to the kitchen to make more but I am going to make them into muffins for our family outing tonight. We are going to a Chicago Bears football game! (my first time) This day has started out GREAT with this recipe. Thanks for sharing!

Cappuccino in a Jar

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
My daughter and I love to make this for gifts. I like to use Splenda instead of sugar and I use only a 1/4 cup of the Splenda. We also like to use different flavors of the non-dairy creamer like french vanilla but any kind is great. We will find out what flavor everyone likes and custom make it for each person. Everyone that has gotten one loves them and has asked for more jars through out the year. Thanks Cindy

Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
VERY TASTEY!! I have tried many different kinds of bread pudding recipes but I could never find just the right one until today. I did tweek it a little for our taste. I added 1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of nutmeg to the bread while it soaked in the milk. Then for the sauce I change it sometimes I will use a tsp of brandy extract or 1 tsp of whiskey or 1 tsp of amaretto. Makes a great change for the sauce. Do not use all of them just one of them.

Apple Stuffed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
This was great!! I did change just a couple of things for my taste. I used cranberries in the stuffing because I love cranberries and they go great with apples. The stuffing was a little dry for us so I used some apple cider to moisten it up some. I did not even have left overs to send for my hubby's lunch the next day. I will definatly make again. Thanks

Amish Friendship Bread Starter

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
I am sooo happy that I finally found this recipe!! Many years ago a friend of mine gave me a starter and we had such a good time making many different kinds of breads. But then I moved away and I never did get the starter part from my friend and she passed away a year after I moved. Now I make at least 2 different breads every week and pass the starters to other friends and then we share with each the different kinds of breads we have made. This is such fun and easy to make. They make great gifts for the holidays as well.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
I thought that this would be a really good stew because of all the great reviews that it got. But we did not care for this recipe. It is a basic stew recipe and needs some more flavor I am just not sure what it needs but I will try it again but I will tweak it some. It was missing something I am just not sure what it was. We also that that it called for too much celery so I used only 2 stalks maybe I will use only 1 stalk next time. Don't get me wrong it was not terrible just needed more flavor. My neighbor always gets a plate or bowl of everything I make and she has always loved everything that I have brought over to her and she did not like this either. We will just keep trying to tweak it to find what it is missing.

Beer Batter Fish Fillets

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2005
This was totaly awesome!! After reading some of the other reviews, they stated the batter was to running. I added a 1/2 cup of corn meal to the batter, also some garlic & onion powder to taste and/or fish seasoning. I also let the fish sit in the batter for 30 min. This made the batter a bit thicker on the fish and made it stick well. My entire family loved this recipe. I am also expected to make this recipe for my neighbor. She buys the fish I cook it. We now have an awesome batter for our fish. Thanks

Rosemary-Scented Pork Loin Stuffed With Roasted Garlic, Dried Apricots and Cranberries and Port Wine Pan Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2005
This was sooo good. I made this for a special dinner. I had over my son's future wife's parents for the first time, just days before the wedding. It was such a big hit. Her mother left with the recipe in hand. She could not get over how good it was. I also shared the left overs with our neighbor and she also requested the recipe! I added extra cranberries because I like them so much and I think they go great with pork. I will be making this for every holiday I can and then some. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful recipe.

Pineapple Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2005
I had read about this recipe reading the reviews for a differt recipe and it sounded strange to me. But I love to try different and strange sounding recipes so I made this. This was GREAT! My soon to be daughter in law was helping me make dinner and she said mom I am not sure about cheese with pineapple. She loved it. This is a keeper and I can't wait to make it for one of our large family gatherings. Thanks Wendy for another great recipe

This is an awesome recipe. My husband is allergic to mayo so I used plain yogurt instead and added garlic powder to taste. Even the kids love it.

No Bake Cookies III

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2003
I love this recipe. I have been making these cookies with my kids for over 25 years. This is the first cookie I made with the kids. They are now 27 and 22 and still ask for them. I have never had problems with the cookies turning out to crumbly or gooey. I have always waited until the mixture has come to a full rolling boil then start my timer for 2 minutes. I believe that if your cookies are not setting then you started your timer to early. Your mixture has to be at a full rolling boil before you set your timer.
