I have been married for 11 years and have an 8 yr old son. Both my husband and son are picky eaters, so I like to try new recipes hoping that they'll eat something other than burgers and fries!
My favorite things to cook
I love baking. Some of my favs are the Honey Bun Cake and Chocolate Trifle ( I like to change this by using white chocolate pudding, strawberries and pound cake).
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday - because of all the food-of course!! My family always expects me to bring the desserts-something new as well a the traditional ones every year.
My cooking triumphs
I have just about mastered the art of baking without measuring. When I was first married, I'd call my mom every night and say.."ok , I have this and this . What can I fix with that? She'd tell me, but say .. throw in a pinch of this and a little of that. It would totally confuse me because she never said a tsp or tablespoon. How was I supposed to know what she meant!!! She just said..Honey, that's the way I've been cooking for years and hardly measure anything" Well, I think I've finally mastered that art and find myself telling others the same thing..oh just add a little of this.
My cooking tragedies
My biggest tragedy was when I was a kid. I was trying to make microwave peanut brittle. I read the recipe wrong and added 1 CUP of baking soda/powder ( can't remember which) instead of 1 TSP. It was black. Burned horribly and we even had to throw the pan out! My family had a good laugh over that one.
