Caramel Apple Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a complete hit. No crumbs left on the plate. I used Grandma Ople's apple pie recipe for the filling with granny smith apples. Complete hit! Pretty much followed the recipe to a T, this was a winner for sure!

Turkey Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
OMG! Wow... I certainly added my spin by making a scratch crust using the fat skimmed off the top of refrigerated turkey drippings in place of shortning in the crust. I also added frozen peas, diced leeks, and fresh mushrooms to the saute before adding the turkey/milk mixture. I also used a slotted spoon to fill the pie crusts before baking so the excess liquid could drain out and the filling wouldn't be runny. It stood up stiff like a pecan pie would and didn't run out all over the plate when sliced. Loved it! This is a new staple in my post-thanksgiving lineup.

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
I use this crumble topping recipe all the time. Love the addition of pecans, butter and brown sugar. I prefer to keep my sweet potatoes cubed instead of creamed smooth. Add some green apple slices to the cubed sweet potatoes and dust the whole thing with a cinnamon sugar coating before loading the crumble topping in this recipe on top. Simply spectacular. :)~

Spicy Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2007
This soup is fantastic. I make this all the time. I like to kick it up a little more than most with extra jalepeno, chili flakes, cilantro, lime juice, and hot sauce. Spicy! Excellent brainless recipe that I will continue to make over and over.

Sweet Potato and Apple Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
I doubled (tripled) the crumble and got rave reviews. Wonderful yam/stewed apple combo for people who don't like pureed muck topped with marshmallows for thanksgiving.

Four Seasons Enchiladas

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I tweaked this recipe quite a bit, but liked it a lot. I doubled the cream cheese and added about 6 oz of sour cream plus one can of tomato sauce and a healthy amount of mexican hot sauce to the filling mixture before mixing in a considerable amount of shredded turkey (leftover from Thanksgiving). That was the filling inside the enchilada's which I topped with the leftover filling, salsa, more mexican hot sauce and a generous helping of shredded cheese. I got 10 large enchilada's into an 8 X 13 Pyrex baking dish. They turned out great. I will definitely make this again.

Cantaloupe Bread with Praline Glaze

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2009
This was fabulous. They has cantaloupe on sale at 10 vents a pound and I loaded up. I most definitely will make this again. Half the oil and replace with more cantaloupe. Don't skip the glaze!

Concord Grape Pie III

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
I made this with grapes I acquired from a local winery. (acquired - haha!) and it was amazing... Watch your pie crust so you don't over bake it, will try this next time with a scratch pie crust and see if I like it even better...

Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
This was excellent. The ham fell off the bone, the glaze was awesome. Now I'm taking the hambone and making ham & beans tomorrow. I will so completely make this every time ham goes on sale.

Baked Maryland Lump Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
I mostly followed the recipe, but would say it worked out quite nicely. I started with 5 fresh rock crabs I caught myself at Berkeley Pier. After boiling and cleaning the crabs my crab meat was pretty moist to start with. I used fresh dill and fresh parsley instead of dried added some finely diced red onion, and I used a combo of parmesian cheese and bread crumbs. I used way more than 1/4 cup, closer to 3/4 cup since the crab meat was so moist in order to get the right texture. They turned out great, I will be crabbing all summer and will tweak it some as I continue to make this again and again.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
Pretty easy and tasty. I added sour cream and used fresh parsley instead of dried oregeno. But it turned out great, will definitely use this recipe as a base again in the future. Added 4/19/10: I've made this at least a dozen times now and honestly it is best as/is. Dice up the garlic and put it in the water then just smash it in with everything else once the potatoes are cooked. One of my favorite side dishes ever...

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
I had two gallons of milk that was going bad in a few days so I was looking for a recipe to use up milk. I combined this recipe with some ideas I got from others (used chirizo instead of bacon, added 2 cans of sliced mushrooms) and chopped fresh parsley. It turned out great, but the consistency with the 7 cups of milk worked out perfect. I would certainly recommend using this as a base recipe with your own spin.

Delaware Blue Crab Boil

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
Wonderful. As an avid crabber, I use this recipe for rock crabs out here in Cali instead of buying Old Bay or Zatarans. I have most of the herbs in my garden so I can pick them fresh. Will use this recipe over and over. Thanks !!

Very nice. Blueberries were on sale, don't use them much. This was great. I used lime juice and lime zest instead of lemon however. Still great !!

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

This was simply awesome. I added spinach and a bag of frozen "stew vegetables" (carrots, onions, potatoes, celery) instead of fresh as thats what I had. So good...

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2007
Very nice recipe, excellent cold salad that you can spread out over a few days. I used Miracle Whip in lieu of Mayo and toasted almonds instead of sunflower seeds, but there's a lot of ways you could substitute and keep this recipe tasty. Will definitely make again. =Dave

Wow, this was awesome. I added some chicken bullion paste and one diced jalepeno but otherwise left it exactly as the recipe called for. Wonderful, will make this over and over.
