About this Cook
I love my family! They are my best (and worst) critics, although it gets a little sketchy because they're 5,7 and 9 and a 38 year-old picky eater. Cooking is my #1 hobby and if I couldn't feed people my life would be somewhat empty.
My favorite things to cook
I really like hispanic dishes, im a sucker for cilantro. I like barbeque, southern, indian, veggies, some baking, and any recipe that catches my tummy's eye and is from scratch. NO processed foods (Don't recommed recipes w/any onion soup mix over here)! Oh yeah, and SPICY!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking w/my kids is always fun! It's right, what they say: kids in the kitchen will eat what they prepare. Making my hubby come pretend to pay attention to me cook in hopes that he will learn how to boil water is always fun too. Christmas dinner is always big and something new.
My cooking triumphs
Realizing that you don't need a recipe to cook wonderful food. Sometimes ya gotta use whats on hand and it may bring a masterpiece to the table! The tricky part is recreating it :)
My cooking tragedies
Most recent one: My son requested a lemon cake for his birthday. Found a wonderful recipe and called myself cooking it in a 9x13 pyrex pan. Needless to say, I hate pyrex for cakes! It wasn't the first time, but definetly the last....No more cornbread cake around here.

Absolute Best Pancake Syrup
Everyone loved this recipe, but it reminded me of caramel icing (like for a caramel cake) and nothing like syrup. It was good, but if I want all the extra butter (which I love) I'll bake a cake next time.

Taco Seasoning I
Tastes just like the packets. I put it in the meat after cooking, just like a normal packet, but I melted 1/2 tbsp of butter and added 1/2 tbsp of flour to the butter, adding it to the meat mixture w/about 1 cup of water, let it reduce a bit - just like the "real" thing!

Cuban Pork Roast I
This recipe was okay, but I've made many similar pork roasts off of the top of my head. I gave it four stars, so as not to discourage new(er) cooks, but if you can cook, you've thrown something similar together. I thought the ingredients would have made a difference to what I usually find in my cabinets/fridge, but......and marinating - waste of time. I used a pork butt roast, didn't retain any "extra" flavor. Maybe it's the spices you choose to keep in your cabinet because I had them all, down to a "T" so maybe that's what wasn't fascinating - I use them all the time.
