Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2014
OK, I admit it... I used some of the cooks comments. Still I am sure the original recipe deserves all 5 stars. I used 1 cup brown sugar in the wet ingredients, 2 cups white sugar in the dry. I also added 1 tsp vanilla (my grandmother always added this to all the sweet baked goods). Yummmmmm

Slow Cooker Tender and Yummy Round Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2013
Excellent! I too added some chopped celery (I had some that needed using up)and Beef Onion Soup mix. Added 1/4 t ground black pepper and WOW it was so yummy after about 8 hours. As one reviewer noted the gravy was watery, so I thickened at the end with flour - about an hour before done. I want to point out that almost every crock pot recipe on here has someone stating it didn't get cooked in the time given. Not all crock pots are created equal, and high altitude (where I cook) makes the time somewhat longer. I compensate for it by setting it on high for the first hour and then turn down. I can do this while getting ready for work, then turn down when I leave.

Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup with Bacon and Hash Browns

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2013
Very good... having had issues with split peas not cooking through in the slow cooker before I soaked them overnight. Forgot to decrease the liquids, so it was a little watery... I simply took some of the liquid and cooked off another cup of peas with some of the additional bacon I had fried up, and a little more sauteed onion. I added some hot chili powder in the place of red pepper, as I love the flavor of it in split pea or lentil soup. Next time I will add a couple bay leaves and perhaps a bit of ham base. (Better than Bouillon brand base) This recipe is definitely a keeper!!!

Roasted Pork Shoulder with Pomegranate Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Exceptional!!! I did use the crock pot as suggested by Sherri's review, and I had pomegranate juice so I used that suggestion too. My honey loves garlic, so I upped that. I love the sauce, and next time will play with fresh herbs.

Rhubarb Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2012
Very good! A bit sweet for me, so next time I wil try adding some garlic cloves and perhaps rosemary to kick up the savory. I may have used too mild a curry powder as well. Will make again and play with the flavors a bit to suit myself.

Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2012
Really enjoyed, as I like Basalmic vinegar, but it seamed to be missing something. I think I will add rosemary next time and cook a bit less than suggested for a bit more pinkness. Will make again!

Ribollita (Reboiled Italian Cabbage Soup)

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2012
Exceptional vegetable soup (and I am not big on vegetable soups or bean soups without meats for that matter)!!! This I will make over and over again. I only had italian style diced tomatoes, so that is what I used.

Streusel Rhubarb Dessert

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2012
Exceptional!!! I grew up with rhubarb and so when I got a basket full from a friend I thought to try something new with some of it. This was a superb choice. It is crumbles a bit on servint so be gentle, but as with the other reviewers I fould the shortbread style crust to be the over the top fabulous touch to this recipe. Next time I will add a bit more rhubarb, as the result was a bit sweet for me but SO SO SO good. A lovely rich treat with coffee and ice cream.

Definate 5 stars here. I grew up eating rhubarb in many forms but have long since lost my rhubarb coffee cake recipe. This one far outshines any rhubarb cake I have eaten!

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2012
Delicious!!! Made this today, and WOW. I only had bone in chicken, but it turned out terrific. Took another reviewers suggestion and doubled the homemade taco seasoning amount and doubled the cilantro as I had a ton. Served it with some of the sauce over rice with a nice salad.

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
Exceptionally delightful... just finished tea and cookies. I took a raters suggestion and used lemon juice and zest, and added vanilla extract (gramma would insist) but the overall cookie was so delightful and would use lemon extract just to have the yummy dunking cookie!

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
Absolutely fantastic! I don't like parsley so omitted that and used white wine, only because I can't drink red and the amount was small enough I could't justify the red turning to vinegar. It made 6 generous portions for me with more cheese (Gruyere and Asiago) and bread (I used a very rustic crusty french bread) than called due to the additional portions. Was sceptical about the balsamic vinegar but WOW it was perfect to round out the flavors! Thanks SO much for the recipe. And the base broth freezes wonderfully!!!
