I was born and raised in Mississippi. I have lived in numerous areas of the USA including the ArkLaMiss, Tn, Florida and New York. I have learned cooking techniques from different cultures, and currently assimilating to life in Israel. I am a mother of 3 and grandmother of 5, soon to be 6, plus to grandpuppies!
My favorite things to cook
I like to do things which remind me of my upbringing and Sunday dinners, as well as now enjoying the bounty of veggies and fresh aromatic spices and herbs offered here at the Mehane Yehuda market. My new love is baking breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Any gathering where I can be with family and friends is a favorite for me. We always made the same meals for Thanksgiving or Christmas with all the dishes each of the children love. Now I like to please my grandchilren the same way whenever possible.
My cooking triumphs
I would say baking wonderful breads, especially the challah I bake each week for Shabbot. Also, wonderful carrot cake, chocolate cake, and various flavored cheese cakes.
My cooking tragedies
The most recent tragedy I guess would be moving into this apartment with an inferior stove than what I am used to. There is no indicator other than numbers 1-9 to give a true temperature. I have learned to adjust temperature through some failures and much guesstimation.
