About this Cook
Growing up, my Mom made the cakes for family gatherings. I started taking that over when I was a teenager and now I'm considering opening my own business.
My favorite things to cook
Cookies, cakes and cupcakes of all sorts, especially chocolate chip cookies. :)

Beth's Chocolate Chip Cookies
I did this exactly as the recipe shows, except I didn't have buttered shortening. I used regular. That, unfortunately really matters. We can totally taste the shortening. The cookies have a slightly gross, fatty taste to them. The cookies are perfect in thickness, chewiness, softness. To help cover the fatty flavor, (would have added butter flavoring if I had some) I added a little bit of almond extract and a whole bunch (maybe a 1/4 cup) of tiny peppermint pieces. So now they are Peppermint Crunch Chocolate Chip Cookies. lol. But they're good.

Interesting. Not my forte. I think I'd like it better if it was more milk chocolatey. I don't know. If you have a crowd looking for something interesting, this is good. Otherwise, there are way tastier desserts to make.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup
This recipe is a great place to start for Taco Soup, but it is in need of some changes. The beer is a problem. I tested it out by putting a fourth of a cup in and it completely changed the flavor. It didn't not better it and I can imagine that putting the whole can would have killed it for me. The KEY INGREDIENT of this recipe IS the TACO SEASONING! If it's not flavorful enough, add more taco seasoning! This is not enchilada soup. Adding cumin and chili powder caused major problems for me. I ended up having to almost double up on ingredients. But the taco seasoning really is what makes it! Everything else is personal preference. Also, sauteing the onions in butter first and using tomato paste totally added some great flavor!
