Scandinavian Almond Puff

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
excellent! I might increase the amount of the upper pastry part to get more of the more custard-y part, although I don't know if that would work well. The ingredients say 1 tbsp butter in the glaze, the instructions say 2 -- I used 1.5 and it was perfect. Super easy, not too sweet, and great-tasting.

these are very good! perfect to take to a party. the dough made more than 80 tarts for me, and I ran out of filling faster than I ran out of dough.

Fresh Pear Cake

I loved it -- it's a little like a pumpkin cake except, well, not so pumpkin-y. Same idea. I went a little easy on the cinnamon and split the nutmeg into half-nutmeghalf-ginger. I used about 5 medium-sized pears, and I cut them pretty finely (food processor makes it very easy). I used a caramel glaze on it that worked very well. (14 cup butter, 1 tbsp corn syrup, 12 cup brown sugar, combined, heated, and boiled for 1 minute)

Lazy Dazy Cake I

incredibly good! I made it in two 8-inch rounds -- looks nicer than a flat cake. Cooked for just over 20 minutes. Watch it at the stage where you put it under the broiler, and turn it around so it colors evenly, if necessary.

OK -- a little too sharp for my taste. Definitely saute the onions (I only did for a little bit, so still tasted raw).

Libby's® White Chip Pumpkin Spice Cake

good but not great. I cooked it too long -- don't be deceived it it doesn't look like it's done inside, the outside will get tough if you leave it in too long. great glaze, though!

Pumpkin Cookies I

not too sweet at all; in fact, it was the not-too-sweet cookie part contrasted with the butterscotch chips that made it good. I'd use more chips next time, even. very nice, a good change from everyday cookies.

Black Russian Cake I

very VERY good! I make a lot of very tasty desserts but this one is my roommate's new favorite. I made it just as called for, but with the glaze mentioned in these reviews, and substituting Mocha Caramel liqueur for the kahlua / coffee liqueur (I hate coffee flavor). I also had to cook it for at least 55 minutes.

Coffee Liqueur Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2003
I loved it! I hate coffee flavor of any sort, but we used Mocha Caramel liqueur and it was great. Definitely use 16 oz. of bread, otherwise it would be way too soggy. But be sure to use a bigger pan... it expands as it cooks. I'd also leave out the cinnamon sugar layer; it's more than sweet enough with the caramel.

Golden Rum Cake

amazing! Lots of rum in the glaze, though. If you are serving to people who don't like alcohol, drizzle it over rather than soaking it upside down. Or soak it the day before; the flavor is a little less strong the next day.

Quite good. I would use at least twice as much squash/zucchini, to make it a little lighter. Water chestnuts are essential, as are the Ritz crackers.

excellent! a great spring/summer dessert, easy and sweet. If you're wondering how much to buy, I used a bit more of the crust mixture than it called for and I used 2lbs of strawberries (hulled and sliced).

very good -- I agree, more cheese, less green onion, substitute milk for some of the cream, and the bacon is unneccessary.
