Garlic, Spinach, and Chickpea Soup

Reviewed: May 27, 2014
Wow; if I could do six stars then I would. I used chicken and beef bouillon for this, used evaporated milk instead of cream and used a LOT of spinach but did everything else by the book. This soup is AWESOME! thank you!

Fresh Fig Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2013
I thought these were okay...very, very crumbly and soft and the flavor was okay but not spectacular.

Pumpkin Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2012
I think this recipe could have used a little more sugar. That having been said, I ended up with a lot of it after Thanksgiving and had it for breakfast every day with a little half & half poured over top until I finished it. I love pudding any way I can get it.

Cherry Swirled Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
I loved this cheesecake! I didn't have chocolate wafers so made the crust with vanilla wafers and cocoa powder. I was mostly impressed with the consistency of the cheesecake mixture and how the cherry puree didn't sink to the bottom when I poured it in; I was actually able to make four layers and marble it! Thank you for the recipe.

Fresh Fig Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2012
I cannot express how wonderful this cake is. I only had a few figs so I used 1/2 cup of white figs in the batter and made the filling with 1 cup of purple figs. It was the most beautiful cake batter I've ever seen; white with little pink flecks and seeds. I simply put the filling on each cake layer and served them separately. I am from the Philly area, and the great foods around here are cheesesteaks, Philly pretzels and Tastykakes, a line of packaged snack cakes like Hostess. My boyfriend told me the cake tastes like the Tastykake Jelly Krimpet, a local favorite and possibly the highest compliment he could give. Thank you for this recipe!

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2012
Sean, you are right! I did not alter the recipe in any way. My boyfriend, who is very meat-&-potatoes and who I am sure has never even a chickpea, was so in love with the cucumber sauce that I almost didn't have any for the falafel cakes when they were done. The flavor of the cakes was very, very nice but the cucumber sour cream sauce is "the bomb". It will be our new holiday dip; it deserves a recipe entry all of its own!

Chocolate Chip Orange Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
While the bread has very nice flavor, I have some issues with the recipe. It needed more flour; the batter was VERY thin; all of my chips sank to the bottom. And the loaf pans should have been greased and floured; one of the loaves broke in half and the other left a quarter of it stuck in the pan.

Zucchini Bake

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2012
I used my very first zucchini from my very first garden to make this. It was a little blah but was a nice side dish for Chicken Parmigiana. Next time I will definitely add ground beef or sausage and some additional spices. Overall, I would make this again.

Juicy Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
I agree with Jenny! Do not let the small ingredient list turn you away. This chicken smells wonderful while it roasts, and tastes even better. My boyfriend who is not a cook but has become used to my thousand-ingredient odysseys asked me, "Is THAT all you're doing to it before you roast it?" Upon eating the finished product, he said he was glad I hadn't done more.

Date Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
I made this for my mom's 82nd birthday; it is an old-fashioned recipe and it was just right! The user who mentioned the glaze tasted like flour was correct -- there was more than a faint hint of flour taste to it. Maybe cornstarch or another thickener would do better? The cake is also quite sweet; nice with a strong cup of coffee.
