Triple the Ginger Cookies

Easy and deliciously spicy. I cut the brown sugar by half, and rolled small balls of dough in granulated sugar before baking for a little sparkle. (Remember that the candied ginger is very sweet too.)

Bread Pudding I

This was perfectly nice, but nothing spectacular. Also, I found it too eggy rather than custard-y. If I were to make it again I'd leave out one egg. I used golden raisins plumped in hot water, whole wheat bread, and cut down the sugar a bit.

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Very good for what it is: a quick, *easy* bread that tastes/smells like yeast. Didn't look very pretty, but just slice it before you serve and no one will know. I cut down the sugar to 1/4 c. The bread was very yummy, sliced and topped with honey.

Anaheim Fish Tacos

Too soupy for tacos. The name should be changed to "Spicy Mexican Fish Soup" - I'd give 4 stars for that. I ended up serving the fish in bowls with corn tortilla quesadillas on the side. Pretty tasty anyway.

Hearty Turkey Soup with Parsley Dumplings

This was soooo delicious. Definitely worth the work. Too bad I only roast a turkey once a year, it's almost worth it to cook one just so you can make the soup! Don't skip the dumplings, they are a close second to the delectably complex broth for the best part of the soup. Just make sure to keep the dumplings small, otherwise they are a little doughy in the middle. I skimmed the fat from the broth. Loved it!

Tart Lemon Triangles

The crust was very floury and too crumbly. The filling tasted good, I used fresh limes and reduced the sugar to 3/4 c. I will not use this recipe again because I know there are better ones out there.

Indonesian Satay

Faaaantastic chicken! I sliced the chicken breasts into strips, marinated overnight, and threaded them onto skewers for my George Foreman grill. I served this at a birthday party and there were no leftovers. I didn't make the peanut sauce, and no one seemed to miss it.

Mexican Bean Salad

Great! Very refreshing for hot summer days. I usually add extra cilantro and cut the dressing by half, or make the whole batch and use half to marinate some chicken. One time I tried using the food processor to chop the veggies, but I don't recommend it! This is good with some fresh cubed avocado on top.

Oatmeal and Wheat Flour Blueberry Pancakes

Definitely a different texture from your classic pancake, but that's part of what makes it good. I use applesauce instead of the oil and regular milk instead of soy. Add a few extra blueberries, they're good for you. Delicious, and leftovers are good too.

Orange Glazed Carrots

Very easy and kind of tasty, but pretty boring despite touch of ground ginger I added. If you are looking for a nice carrot recipe, try these. If you are looking for an exceptional carrot recipe, look elsewhere.

Southern Living magazine's Brunswick Stew

The best vegetable soup I've ever eaten. A little time consuming, but SO easy. I used vegetable broth instead of water. It is a stew rather than a soup, so if you want more liquid add an extra cup or two of broth. I also added about 1-1/2 c. frozen okra with the corn and lima beans. Serve with cornbread. Yum!
