Retired teacher trying to change over old gourmet recipes to newer healthier eating.
My favorite things to cook
Egg substitute omelet with mushrooms and shallots, with a serving of left-over Chinese beef with snow peas.
Brunch with simmered eye of round and a grits souffle I took out of the Times Picayune years ago
Jane's wonderful pot roast turned into a slow cooker recipe. None better.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Spaghetti in a white sauce - especially for late, tired nights.
Miniature Krystal hamburgers whenever we went shopping on Canal Street. Now was that really 50 years ago or so?
My cooking triumphs
Profiteroles and croquembouche from the old Gourmet volumes. Oh, and genuine Hungarian cauliflower soup, without the lard (that was all that was available in Budapest after WW II.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to bake Kale leaves for nibbles. Grand desastre!
but I'm determined to succeed at this one day.
