Citrus Chicken and Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
My family enjoyed this dish. I followed the advice of some of the reviews and added lemon juice, orange zest, tamari sauce, and minced garlic. I used brown rice and cooked it for about 30 then added the chicken. It was wonderful!

Maple Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2011
I thought this was a wonderful recipe, I have made it several times and my family loved it. I used Organic Maple Syrup, Tamari Sauce, and Cayanne Pepper. Thank you all for the information on marinating fish for only 30 minutes.

Pocket Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2011
I used this recipe as a "starter". I agree with other members that thinner is better than thicker. I used whole wheat and rice flour and my family thought they were perfect. I will use this recipe again.

Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2011
A great recipe. I subsituted the cornstarch with tapioca flour. The reason I made it the second time was not only to enjoy with dinner but to eliminate the cooked fish smell in my house!!

Spiced Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2011
Thank you for the great recipe!!! I became one of “those” people who change up the recipe; only because I didn’t have apricot preserves in the cupboard. I used a ½ jar of “plucot” / pepper sauce. A plucot is ½ plum ½ apricot. They turned out great and the family really went wild over them! I will make them next time using the apricot preserves.

Mushroom Stuffed Zucchini

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2011
I thought this recipe was wonderful!!!! And....as many cooks do....I tweeked it a little. I added fresh garlic and basil (omitted the oregano) to the mushrooms and peppers, I used mozzarella and topped it with Monerey Jack and fresh parsley. I love the simplicity of the recipe and the vairations that can make it something entirely different.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2011
I thank you for the recipe. I'm trying to reduce my sugar intake so I made a few changes. I omited the white sugar and water from the apples; I used the juice from 1 lemon, 1/4 cup molasses, and 1/4 cup pure maple syrup. I did use 1/2 cup brown sugar for the crumble. The apple crisp turned out delish!!! I will make it again.

Sauced Fish

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
This was such an easy recipe that tasted like you spent hours perfecting the sauce. I added fresh rosemary before serving and another time I added capers. I have also made it using yogurt in place of the sour cream.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

What a simple recipe! I decreased the amount of condensed milk, used fresh pumpkin, used organic spices, and made a pie crust with oat flour. It was a smash hit!

Pecan Turtle Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
Tonight is the 4th time I have made these ridiculously delicious bars this week. My co-workers, friends, and family have gone a little off kilter eating these. I will be filling tins with these for Christmas; since I have had so many requests. I reduced the sugar in the flour mixture by ½ and I used dark semi sweet or bitter sweet chips. Good job Marlyn; thank you for the recipe.

Homemade Yogurt

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2012
It is recommended that you don’t use more than 5 generations of starter; as the live culture is no longer active. And after all isn’t that why we love yogurt, because it’s alive?!!!

Sweetheart Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2012
I had so much fun making these cookies. I can see why they won blue ribbons. I used different jams and lemon curd for the filling, I also left some without the fruit and filled with butter cream/cream cheese frosting. I used vanilla, orange, and almond extracts (separate batches). These are so versatile to shape, fill, color, and decorate. Thank you, Pamela!!!!

Honey, Mustard, and Yogurt Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
Thank you for the recipe, Don. I felt the dressing was a little too sweet for my taste so I added 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to have some acidic balance. I didn’t have any celery seed so I used finely chopped celery leaves; about 2 tablespoons, some freshly ground coriander; about ¼ teaspoon, and a pinch of sea salt. This dressing tasted fantastic on a salad of fresh sprouts!

Simple Strawberry Sauce

Thank you for considering those who struggle in the kitchen for ideas. When I want a "sauce" for my fresh strawberries; I add a little lemon juice and use honey rather than sugar. Yummy! Thanks again bluegirl for being kind and considerate!

Chinese Sticky Rice Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2012
What an easy recipe. I got pretty confused by reading all the reviews so I did reduce the sugar and oil by 1/2 and used soy milk. I made my own red bean paste using Azuki beans (whew, what a process) it turned out delish. I will make this again.

Loved the filling!! Had a problem with the "pocket"; even tho I am a pie maker, it just didn't work well for me. I will try the recipe again with my own crust recipe. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, devaudio.

Joey's Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
This recipe is very delish, thank you, Joey. I have made several batches of this bread pudding and mixed it up a bit....by adding dried fruits; such as: cranberries and walnuts, cherries and almonds, and raisens and pecans. Then I made different sauces like; vanilla, maple, and almond. It's always a hit with family and friends
