WOW! This was great! I have tasted several versions of tiramisu, but this was the first time I made it myself, and this was easy and delicious. I don't like the taste of alcohol in desserts, so instead I made 2 cups of double-strength coffee (next time I would make a little more). I followed several previous reviews' suggestion and dipped the ladyfingers in the coffee instead of brushing it on. (A mini loaf pan was the perfect size, and I just dipped them in for a few seconds on each side.) The only problem I had was that my trifle bowl (or maybe the way I arranged the cookies) made it so that there was about 1.5 inches of ladyfinger sticking out above the top layer of filling. So I used the whipped cream recipe on this site (1 cup whipping cream, 1 tspn vanilla, 1 Tbspn powdered sugar) and added that on top to sort of fill up the bowl. It turned out fabulous! My husband (the artistic one) made this neat little cut-out, and we laid it on top before we topped it off with the cocoa so there was a nice design. I don't think I have ever made anything that looked so pretty like something you'd buy in a store! And everyone raved, even those who said they didn't like coffee. So overall, you have GOT to try this. I will be making it any time I want to impress. :)
