Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2003
I used a 2.5 lb london broil for this recipe because of its low fat content. I realized later that fatty meats are a better choice for the slow cooker (they become tender more quickly), so keep that in mind if you are using lean meat as well. I put quartered red potatoes and carrots in the bottom of the crock pot and covered it with the london broil sliced into fourths. I sprinkled the meat with seasoning salt, garlic powder, and the dry soup mix. I poured 1 can of mushroom soup, 1/2 can beef broth, 1 can french onion soup over the entire dish. I also added one bay leaf. I cooked this on low for 10 hours and was not satisfied with the texture. I then cut the meat up into smaller pieces and turned it to high heat for an extra two hours. Eventually it did become incredibly tender and it had a nice flavor. The carrots and potatoes turned out perfectly. If you prefer a thick gravy you will definitely need to add flour or cornstarch (the base was very watery in my version). Overall a very easy recipe with good flavor.

Awesome Korean Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2003
I used 1.5 lbs of eye of round steak for this recipe. I sliced it as thinly as possible while half-frozen. I created the marinade exactly as directed (with exception of mirin- I did not have any!). I let the meat marinate for about 20 hours, and I stirred it twice during that time to ensure that it was being evenly saturated. When ready to cook I threw it into my wok for about 10 minutes. The flavor was delicious and I will definitely make this again. Next time I will try to slice the beef even thinner(I may ask the butcher to do it- I have heard that paper-thin is best). The flavors are rather strong so I recommend serving with something bland like steamed white rice and broccoli. Wonderful flavor- thank you for the recipe!

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2003
I made this for my boyfriend (I don't particularly like cooked apples) and we ate every bite of it in two days. I made an 8x8 version with 5 large Granny Smith apples. As others have suggested, I only used 1/3 cup of white sugar in the mixture that goes on top of the apples, and I eliminated the water. I made the amount of topping in the original recipe and had some left over. The texture was perfect, and the flavor was absoulutely delicious! I think the Granny Smith apples were just right for this dish- they created a fantastic tart/sweet combination. Wonderful!

Beefy Manicotti

This was delicious! I didn't have bread crumbs but it still had a nice consistency and flavor. My guests loved it and I will make it again and again. Thank you for sharing!

Cioppino

Reviewed: May 15, 2003
This is the best cioppino recipe I've tried- and I have tried several. As others suggested, I used clam juice in lieu of water. I also used Del Monte Italian Blend Stewed tomatoes instead of regular. This is a delicious, hearty meal--- easy to make but very pricey so I will only make it on special occasions. Served it over bow-tie pasta and it was a huge hit. Thanks for a keeper!

Hershey's ® Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: May 15, 2003
This is delicious! I doubled the recipe and it made 4+ big servings. I added a dollop of cool whip to the top- next time I won't because it doesn't need it! It's delicious all by itself. Served with a few fresh blackberries.

Fruit Pizza I

Reviewed: May 14, 2003
WOW! What a huge hit. I used pre-made cookie dough for the crust- I cut it into about 20 slices, rolled them onto a 14-inch round pizza pan. I sprayed lightly with Pam before putting the dough on and that seemed to help when it came time to serve. It baked perfectly- I did not ice it until the following day. Added fruit, chilled for 3 hours, and then served at an office party. It was a favorite of everyone and they are already asking when I will make another one. Thanks for the great recipe!

Coconut Ambrosia Salad

Reviewed: May 8, 2003
So Yummy! I used fresh pineapple, mandarin oranges, and seedless green grapes. It was much more like a dessert (and less like a fruit salad) with all of the cool whip and marshmallows, but really tasty and a huge hit with my guests.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: May 8, 2003
I'm not sure what happened- The sauce and the breading were delicious, but the meat never became tender. I cut down the cooking time like so many reviewers suggested, and if I had it to do over, I would cook it longer- like the original recipe says. Flavor was good but texture was not- I probably won't be making this again.

Cappuccino Pie

Reviewed: May 1, 2003
This had a good flavor but I tried freezing it as others have suggested, and it became very icy. Next time (and I will definitely try it again), I will probably only freeze for a couple of hours and then move it back to the refrigerator.

Quick and Spicy Fish Fillets

My boyfriend enjoyed this. I am not a huge fan of Parmesan cheese so it was not one of my favorites. I used cod and it worked very well.

Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: May 1, 2003
This has a really great flavor. I cooked mine on the George Foreman grill and it was a hit. I served the chicken and vegetables with baked potatoes but in retrospect wish I had done rice instead... I think that might go best with this dish. Also, I highly recommend yellow squash in the vegetables- this was the best part!!!

These were so tasty... I am not a fan of sour cream so I omitted it, and even without it, they were full of flavor and I will definitely make them again.

DELICIOUS! Served it with vanilla bean ice cream and it was a hit. I did use more white sugar than was called for, but otherwise thought the recipe worked perfectly. Thanks!

Super Grouper

As someone else mentioned, this recipe is very buttery. Next time I will use about 1/8 of the listed amount. Otherwise I think it would have had a really good flavor.

These were a big hit with my dinner guests- I don't think they would be very good once they are cooled off, but fresh out of the oven they are delicious!

Seafood Lasagna I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2002
I agree with the other reviews- VERY good, but prep time was about 55 minutes rather than 5. Used ricotta instead of cottage cheese, but other than that I followed the instructions exactly. Thank you for posting this recipe! I'm very pleased with the finished product!
