Chef John's Banana Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2014
It was excellent. My mom makes a great banana bread and this rivals her's. My wife made this and I'm very grateful. We will be sharing this with our "foodie" friends.

Tried it this evening....what a great recipe. I was not feeling well and really needed some comfort food. Even my very picky wife was thrilled with this soup. Made it exactly as posted and couldn't have been more pleased. Thanks for sharing!!!

Amish Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
Excellent recipe. Worth the extra effort. Made this for a picnic and everybody loved it. Some said it was a little too sweet but that didn't keep them from coming back for more. Made it just the way the recipe called for.

Spinach and Strawberry Salad

Reviewed: May 23, 2004
I've had this recipe marked for months but never got around to trying it until last night. I served this at a formal dinner party for 8 of my closest friends...all of them good cooks. As such, I was a little hesitant but this was probably the hit of the dinner. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Followed the recipes exactly as is and couldn't believe the wonderful flavor melding that occured. Will definitely be making this great summertime salad repeatedly. Thanks so much, Jerry.

Dinah's Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: May 23, 2004
Served these for a formal dinner party last night. Not one left out of a very large pan! Like some of the other reviewers, I thought the mixture was a little too dry and would probably cut down on the bread crumbs. Did reduce the butter as others suggested so this may have contributed to the dryness. Used Crab meat and Clams. Absolutely wonderful. Will definitely make this one again and again. Recipe does make a ton of mixture...double the mushrooms and you'll still have plenty. Thanks so much Dinah!!!

Cajun Crab Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2004
Served this last night for a dinner party and everybody thought I'd slaved all day...definitely the hit of the party. I made it exactly as instructed and everything turned out great! Definitely a keeper for my recipe box. As I was making this for the party and had lots of other food prep work to do, I took this recipe through step 1 several hours ahead of time, transfering the simmered mixture to a slow cooker on low to keep it hot. Added the crab meat, onions and cream just before the guests arrived. Couldn't be happier. Thanks!

Pita Chips

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2004
Made these according to the recipe and everything turned out just great. Didn't have any problem with burning but I did watch them carefully as several others suggested. One note: You could probably use 1/3 cup of oil or even 1/4 cup instead of the suggested 1/2 cup. I had plenty left over. May also be just as easy to brush on the oil and then "pinch" or sprinkle the spices. All in all....very good recipe idea. Thanks.

Best Marinara Sauce Yet

Followed this recipe to a "T" and loved it.... It's a great sauce by itself or you can do like I did and add seafood, or sausage or whatever. A real keeper. Thanks, Jackie!

Tangy Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2003
Follow this recipe to the "T" for a sure fire winner that even ham haters will love. I know, I'm not a big ham lover but I sure enjoyed this one. I was asked to cook one for a 50th wedding anniversary party. I received many compliments from people I didn't even expect them from...and not one bit of ham was left. This is a definite keeper and will become the standard ham glaze in our house from now on! Thanks Sue - you sure turned my attitude about ham around!!!

Chicken and Turkey Marinade

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2003
I used this recipe to marinate two bone-in turkey breasts which I then smoked with hickory chips on low, indirect heat in my gas grill. The breasts marinated for almost 24 hours before grilling, breast side up (never turned or rotated them). The aroma before and after cooking was incredible and I've never received so many compliments... Not one scrap of turkey was left. I'll be doing my Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys like this from now on. What a winner! Thanks Elaine!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2003
I've never been a big fan of the pot roast but this recipe probably changed my mind forever. What a great treat....I even forgot to add the soup mix and it was still great. I did, like others, substitute a little red wine for some of the water. Threw in some potatos and carrots, too. What a wonderful, wonderful surprise.
