About this Cook
I grewup with a mother that was a wonderful Southern Cook who taught me a lot but trial and error as done more to make me the cook I am today. My mother-in-law, too, was a good Southern Cook that I learned from as well. I enjoy cooking for friends and family gatherings and gained experience through entertaining for my husband's business associates. The experience for entertaining was learned at my mother's knees as she frequently was in the kitchen preparing for social functions.
My favorite things to cook
There's Shrimp Creole; pork chops and mashed potatoes with gravy and biscuits; and occasional baked chicken with rise; spahetti with my homemade sauce and garlic bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The family loves my Pot roast with rice and gravy, better known as "Bubbling Crude"! Thanksgiving and Christmas will always find Pork Roast with Waldrof Salad and other family recipes for Sweet Potatoes and Green Beans. Homemade Cranberry Sauce handed down from my mother. Mincemeat, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin Pie and depending on those present, Pecan or Peanut Butter Pie. A varietable feast!
My cooking triumphs
There have been many I'm sure but the most memorable is Grand Marnier Souffle I served at Thanksgiving the year my son, now daughter-in-law and her parents came for dinner. It was perfect!!!
My cooking tragedies
The worst was what is referred to as "the explosion cake", a lemon jello cake where I misread the instructions and put way too much oil in the batter. the pan was too small and the whole thing was the "ultimate" disaster and a mess to cleanup.
