Scottish Shortbread III

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2005
Very disappointing. I followed the recipe exactly, except for adding vanilla, and I don't blame that for the dry crumbly, definately not melt in your mouth texture. Little flavor even with the vanilla. Might make a good pie crust. Oh well...I'll keep looking for a good shortbread...

Be sure and grease your baking sheets; it gets sticky!

Amish Sourdough Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
I thought these were great. Yes, they tasted a bit like sourdough, and they were light enough it was difficult to flip them, but we all loved the lightness and the sourdough flavor. In fact, my 5 kids thought they tasted so good they didn't want syrup or jam on their pancakes. This is a wonderful bonus...much less sticky!! Now I'm going to go look for a homemade buttermilk mix recipe.

Skillet Cookies I

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
Truly an excellent cookie. This is one of our traditional christmas cookies I grew up with. We always called them "humdingers."

Quick and Easy Ketchup

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
It's easy and tastes great. Not Heinz, but you can't really expect that out of a homemade ketchup. I love that it doesn't have corn syrup in it, as I am trying to get away from so much corn syrup in our food (hence the homemade ketchup.) Thank you for this recipe!

Yes, I'm the submitter, but no one tries recipes that have no stars. And honestly, I really believe this is excellent.

Cherry Angel Cake Roll

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
Wonderful dessert. I've made it several times now. I also enjoy making it with real whipping cream, whipped till fluffy and with just a little powered sugar added, and fresh fruit such as sliced strawberries, blueberries, etc. I recommend using parchment paper to cook on, and dusting the dish towel with powdered sugar BEFORE rolling up the cake. That way it doesn't stick when you unroll it.

Six Week Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
Marvelous recipe, and it stands up well to "fiddling" as well. I use 2 cups applesauce and one cup coconut oil instead of shortening, and I cut the sweetening in half and use whatever mixture of honey, molasses, agave nectar, and/or brown sugar I have on hand. And of course I always add loads of dried fruit, sometimes dates or raisins or cranberries, often a mixture. Yum. Warning: you better have a HUGE bowl and spoon.

Finnish Kropser (Baked Pancakes)

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2012
temperature may be a bit high, ours puffed quite a lot and then burnt around the edges, but it was still completely edible and extremely yummy. I don't want to think about the calories consumed but one recipe fed my five kids and myself with no leftovers, and we had vanilla yogurt and cantelope with it. So keep that in mind if you are planning on feeding an actual 24 people.

Gaye's Microwave Fudge

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2012
So easy, quick and good it's ridiculous. I used the reviewer's suggestion of warming the butter and milk together in the microwave and then adding it to the dry ingredients. Just make sure you use a bowl big enough that the milk doesn't boil over! I used peppermint extract instead of vanilla. Yum.
