Diet Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
I confess I made a few changes. Being lazy, instead of chopping cabbage and carrots, I used bagged coleslaw mix. I sauteed some garlic and onion in olive oil first- so I didnt' need the soup mix. Lastly, I added 2 chicken bullion, a head of broccoli, a few cups of fresh baby spinach, and 2 cans of diced tomatoes instead of fresh. It was phenomenal! I seasoned it with a bit of italian seasoning and cayenne pepper. It had a decent kick to it. I LOVE this- Thanks Peg. I know what I'm having for lunch now all week :)

Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
I've made this 3 times and we love it. I've tried it both with the blueberry sauce and also a can of pie filling. I personally like it with a can of the pie filling plus about a cup of plain fresh berries. I used a broken u graham cracker crust for ease. This recipe is amazing- everyone who has tried it at our house raves. Thanks!

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
As is, I'd give the recipe a 4.5 maybe? The flavors are awesome, but... I've made this about a dozen times now, and what I've changed, is that I put the oil ON the cookie sheet and just dip the potatoes in the spice mixture (I add a few spoons of flour to it as well) and it makes them bake up crispy and a lot like deli fries. This maybe is just our family's preference, but we love it.

Cinnamon Honey Butter

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
We LOVED this! It was great on fresh, warm, homemade bread. Heck, I'd even lick it off a dirty spoon. Thanks so much- I've made it at least a dozen times, and each time it tastes amazing.

White-Hot Hot Chocolate

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
We really liked this. It was different than our normal boring "brown" hot chocolate. The amount of spice was great. I topped ours with a liitle whip cream sprinkled with nutmeg. It was great. Thanks!

Southern-Style Chocolate Gravy

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
We enjoyed this a lot. It is really rich, so the last few times I've made it I've made both the chocolate and also some plain sausage gravy for the faint at heart. I've found that it's just a little too sweet and "dessert-y" for some. It's a fun thing to include in my breakfast rotation.

Kickin' Turkey Burger with Caramelized Onions and Spicy Sweet Mayo

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
I admit I didn't use turkey, I used a combo of beef and buffalo from Whole Foods. They were amazing!!!!!!!! So amazing, that we have eaten them 3 times in the last week. The spicy sweet mayo is so amazing. We made both sweet potato fries and oven fries with the burgers and both were great with the sauce. We love this recipe- thanks so much!!

Truly Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
This was great. I made it as the recipe stated, only I used a broken up graham cracker crust because I was feeling lazy. My kids have asked me to make it again- we really liked it. Thanks!

Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Loved these! Tasted like the ones I grew up with. I had to double the recipe to feed our family. I cheated and used pre-shredded rehydrated potatoes because it was easier, but I followed the measurements for it all and they were great. Thanks- my kiddos loved them!

Haitian French Toast

Reviewed: May 7, 2011
The taste of this was great, however it turned into a soggy mess for me. I followed the recipe exactly- leaving the cut bread overnight. I didn't let the bread sit in the egg mixture nearly as long- maybe just about 30 seconds a side, but when I fried them up, they were really soggy. I found I fried them for nearly 10 minutes per side, trying to get them less mushy, but to no avail. My husband said maybe had I cut the bread much thinner perhaps it would have worked better. I might have to play with the recipe, because I really did like the taste, but no one in our family could eat theirs because they were so raw they practically liquified in the middle. sorry :(

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2011
I really liked these, and so did the kids. They did come out a little flat, but that could have been my fault- I had a little helper who may have overbeat the batter. The only changes I made were to the syrup. I added a T. of butter, a shot of vanilla and 2 T. cream. It was great. I was literally licking the syrup spoon. On a side note, a few of our kids like peanut butter on their pancakes. I tried a bite of one of theirs with peanut butter and it was phenomenal! I made myself 3 more with peanut butter and the warmed syrup. Huge hit here at our house. Thanks!

Cheese Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
These were pretty good. I actually made 2 batches. The first ones I made exactly as written. They were maybe worthy of a 3 star rating. I probably wouldn't make them again if following the recipe as written. Then I made them following the reviews. I used butter instead of shortning, more milk, more cheese, added parmesean too, and brushed them with garlic salt and melted butter after coming out of the oven. I would make them like this in a heartbeat.

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2009
This was really good but maybe a little sticky in the pan to clean up. I accidently overcooked my ham this way, but it was still tasty.

Layered Dulce de Leche Dessert

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2009
We all liked this a lot. I made the mistake of cutting it in large wedges, but it was too rich for more than a thin slice. I also used Goya canned Dulce Le Leche, and just microwaved it a bit to make it spread better. The only other changes I made was that I froze it overnight. It was very easy to make, and I think we'll have it again as the kids really liked it. Thanks!

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
These were okay. Honestly I was expecting a lot better, but they were still good. I followed the recipe exactly, except I used half semisweet and half milk chocolate chips. Maybe I'll try again, like I said they weren't bad, just sort of plain tasting.

Soft Molasses Cookies V

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I've made this several times since downloading the recipe. We really like it. The smell as it bakes is wonderful too! I've made it as is, and also used half butter and half butter flavored shortening. I've also played with the amount of spices. It's great as is, but also has wonderful possiblities. My kids love these with a big mug of spicy hot cocoa- and they are amazing dipped in homemade whipped cream. So glad I found these. Must try!

Grilled Asparagus

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
We love this and I've made it several times. However, I microwave steam mine for just a few minutes before adding it to the grill- I have little kids who like it on the soft side. The flavor of this is awesome- definatly a keeper!

'So This Is What Heaven Tastes Like!' Cream Cheese Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I'm torn about this recipe. I followed everything pretty closely- just added a pinch of almond extract too and left out the nuts. I felt it was pretty plain, but the kids all liked it. I think it has great possiblilities, and I'll probably make it again, but I wouldn't make it as the "only" dessert if company was coming.
