i am a devout christian. Jesus got er done!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
christmas time get togethers! my mother had a big house and all the kids and their youngins would come. plus a bunch of her "half youngins"(over 200 through the years)and their kin would stop by over the 3 or 4 day period. we never knew who would be stopping by.we'd have to clear extra space just to put out all the food that was brought in! Mom would find the biggest turkey she could, around 25lbs,and make lbs & lbs of dressing.she used a recipe brought over from ireland by her grandparants(who settled up in the appalachian mnts.of w.v.)the women got everything ready, but the men ground and mixed it up and stuffed the tutkey!it would bake all night and by morning, you couldn't get out of the bed fast enough to get a bite!i sure do miss those days.i miss Mom so much. she's been with the Lord since '92. it doesn't seem like its been that long. we still have good times but its never the same without Mom,is it? when the table is spread up yonder,my Mom's turkey & dressing will be right there.
My cooking triumphs
my Mother's fruitcake and my peanut butter cookies. my husband would say my pinto beans & cornbread, biscuits and gravy, and my soups and chili.
My cooking tragedies
chicken & dumplings. i love it so much, i quit after my first try. i was afraid i'd get it right but wouldn't be able to stop making them!lol
