B and L's Strawberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2002
My children and I felt that this recipe was very refreshing. Not too much sugar which enhanced the flavor of the strawberries. We may experiment with the fruit, but not the added ingredients. This recipe is a real treat.

Thai Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2003
These burgers are good, but I really wouldn't compair them to "Thai". The lemon grass wasn't strong enough to give it that Thai flavor. (In order to get that taste you need vinegar). We followed the recipe exact and felt they were missing something nonetheless. My boyfriend added more onion and I added pepperjack cheese. All in all, if you want a burger with a different taste then these will do just fine.

Raw Apple Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
This cake was very good. My boyfriend said it was just like his Mom's but without the nuts. I will add the nuts next time.

Texas Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
We wanted to make this recipe but didn't have as much time to spare as it called for. We used the rub and let it marinade in the fridge for about 4-1/2 hours. Then we let them cook for about 3 to 3-1/2 hours instead of 4. I will tell you that they were excellent. There were none left! I loved the rub, didn't need the BBQ sauce. I will no doubt make these again.

Hash Brown and Pork Chop Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
This recipe was very good (something different). It was easy to make and the hash browns were creamy. I used sharp cheese instead of mild and felt that the hash browns could use the extra kick. My boyfriend felt that the pork chops could have used some sort of seasoning while cooking in the oven. I feel that this recipe gives you room to experiment.

Baked Seafood Au Gratin

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
This is an outstanding recipe, should have made more. My whole family loved it. I love seafood anyway and this was a nice one to combine all of my favorite into one meal. Wouldn't have this one alone, not filling enough. We had a nice salad with this and some biscuits, very nice together.

Baked Orange Roughy Italian-Style

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
This recipe was very good. We didn't have the Romano and doubled up on the Parmensan. We feel that fresh Parmesan would have given it a richer taste. We also would have prefered to use fresh fish, but the frozen worked just fine. This is a nice change for fish. Would do this one again.

Mexican Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2004
My boyfriend liked this recipe allthough I felt it was missing something. I felt that it could have used more sauce or some type of meat. Even though my boyfriend picked it for the purpose of being low calorie or fat, I felt that lean sausage would have made this better. We'll try it again but next time with the sausage and a bit extra sauce.

City Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2004
I made this recipe exactly as indicated but doubled since I had more than 1-1/2 lbs. of pork. I grew up with City Chicken without the gravy so I thought this recipe would be interesting. Turns out that it was okay, nothing special to the meat. The kids liked the gravy but thought the meat was missing something. I can't imagine what, it did have enough flavor with the herbs and seasons. Maybe next time I'll make it like I always did and let them compare the two. I think I prefer the old way, but this wasn't too bad for something different.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2004
I thought this recipe would be good for Thanksgiving. I didn't use it in the bird, I fry my turkeys. I thought the recipe was okay. Mostly the adults seemed to like it better than the kids. I feel that it could have used more cranberries, they seemed to have gotten lost in the stuffing. Otherwise, tasty.

Sesame Parmesan Zucchini

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2004
My kids loved this recipe and they aren't real big on zucchini. I made it as a side with my Thanksgiving Dinner for something alittle different. We felt that this recipe had a hint of an oriental taste to it which gave the meal a nice twist. I will definitley do this one again.

Creamy Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2004
This was a nice change from the standard deviled eggs. I used instant minced onions and only half of what the recipe called for. They get softer and have less of a twang than real onions. My kids liked the change and said would do them again sometime along with the standard deviled eggs. No problem for me, these were good.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2004
This is my families favorite sweet potato recipe so far. I've made this twice now and it looks like it's a lock-in when it comes to Thanksgiving. I would recommend this recipe to anyone who loves creamy sweet potatoes without the marshmallows.

Oatmeal Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2004
My boyfriend made these to go with our Thanksgiving meal. We didn't change any of the ingredients. He said that they were more trouble than they were worth making. The flavor was good, but they were a bit heavy, maybe too heavy for such a large meal. I don't think we'll be doing these again.

Tantalizingly Tangy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2004
This recipe was very good. I used the advise of another person by combining apricot preserves with pineapple. I'm not too big on pineapples, but this came out just right. My kids loved it as well. I will be doing this recipe again.

Blackened Shrimp Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2005
I didn't follow this recipe to the letter, I thought there was too much work in the cooking. I saute'd the vegies all at once, added the chicken broth, watered down some cornstarch, added it to thicken, then added the shrimp to simmer. I let the family decide whether or not they wanted sour cream. I tasted the combination of the vegies and thought it was very good without the sour cream. I had also used yolk-free egg noodles instead of fettuccini. It was outstanding. Even my 16 year old liked it, very unusual to like peppers in anything, but he did. I will surely be making this again. Thanks Linda!

Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2005
This is a very easy recipe. I feel that it needed a kick. I would suggest using Pepper Jack cheese inside and regular M.Jack on the outside. Or just use all of Pepper Jack. It reminded me of the seafood enchiladas that I had in New Market, very good. I would make this again. It seems like a fun recipe to experiment with. Thanks!!

Fra Diavolo Sauce With Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2005
This was a very good meal. Quite different from what we are used to and a nice way to use shrimp & scallops together. I only used 1/2 the pasta, but feel that we should have used all of the canned tomatoes (2 cans), it needed a bit more sauce. We also didn't use so much red pepper flakes. I can't do too much heat. But, all in all, this was very very good. Worth making again.

Lemon Basil Pesto Flat Iron Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
As we thought, most of the outer ingredients fell off on the grill, plus it flamed up a bit. The only flavor that stood out (for us) was the garlic. 4 minutes per side wasn't long enough & our steak was pretty thin. I don't think we'll be doing this one again.

Crusty Potato Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
I would have given this recipe 5 stars if the crust was a bit more firm. The recipe was easy, the bread was okay, it fell apart easier than I felt it should. I was a bit disappointed.
