Macomb's Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2013
This was pretty good Irish Soda Bread. I wouldn't call it great. I think it really needs to be authentic with the buttermilk instead of the sour cream. We used a cast iron skillet in the oven since I didn't have spring form pans handy. The cast iron gave it a more crisper texture, which we liked. We may do it again, but will tweak it to our tastes.

Curry Stand Chicken Tikka Masala Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2013
My BF loved this recipe. I personally thought it was too spicy. The chicken was very tender, melted in your mouth without any extra marinating or brining. We served this over rice and had with Naan bread. I don't know if this is something I would do again.

Sausage, Apple, and Cranberry Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2012
Made this dressing to take home for a visit with my sons. They are young, so they are picky. I wasn't sure the cranberries would be a hit in the dressing, but each of them loved it. I would suggest a bit more chicken stock however and less apples. Since I already had a sausage with sage in it (Neese's), I left out the additional and it worked out well with the flavor. This recipe made more than enough for 5 adults. I will be making this again when it's time to visit our parents. :) Thank you for posting.

Crab Appetizer Napoleons

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2012
These were very good. Just right for a light appetizer during a ball game. I don't care for onions, but the green onions gave it the kick and crunch it needed. I used old bay instead of paprika, but feel a sprinkle wasn't enough, so next time I'll incorporate it in the cream cheese mix. Will be doing these again.

Best Formula Three-Cheese Fondue

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
I love fondue, but this did not work out as well as I had hoped. Followed the instructions to the letter. Had all good brand cheeses. I did like the flavor, but not the consistency. The cheese was watery and clogged up on the bottom in the fondue pot. We think it may have been the cheddar, but this is just a guess. Won't do again.

Guinness® Corned Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
This was absolutely delicious. We used 2 pounds of meat and one hole beer (Guinness Stout). We cooked it in a crock pot for 3 hours, turning every hour. DELICIOUS!

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
The recipe was a bit harder than we thought, not impossible however. I personally felt it was a bit dry. Would make a nice bread pudding however. The taste was fine, not special to me. I would suggest having this with a "gravy" meal to sop-up the leftovers.

Pepperoni Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
These were okay, not great. I was hoping for a more chewy dough. To me, it was too sweet and too heavy. I will keep searching.

Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
I cut this recipe in half and made for Zuppa Toscana Soup. I also used the bread machine using the dough cycle. The bread came out perfectly, tasted wonderful and the texture was great. I used the bowls again a couple of days later for chili. Fantastic! A keeper!!

Pseudo Sourdough for the Bread Machine

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
I thought this bread was good. Soft on the inside and a bit crusty on the outside. I didn't use the barley flour. I didn't get the tange as stated in the introduction, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Cornbread II

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
Personally I would give this recipe two stars, but my BH liked it. I suppose he's used to "dry" cornbread. The description says "so delicious and moist" that I thought I would try it. It was neither for me. Plus, it needed more cornmeal and less flour.

Apple Butter Pork Loin

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
This was a good recipe for pork. The smell in the house reminded me of Thanksgiving, yum! We mixed the sauce ingredients and put it on the tenderloins immediately. Covered and baked for almost 2 hours. The sauce remained on top and we got a little juice at the bottom, which I think helped keep the tenderloin juicy. Thanks for posting! Will be doing again.

Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
This was an easy way to make sugared sweet potatoes. I would give it five stars, but it was too sweet for me. I also think that next time I would use a different cheese other than cream cheese. I've had sweet potatoes with cheddar and it doesn't take away any of the natural sweetness of the potato. I will do this again, but I will be tweeking it for better results.

Pretty Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2008
I'm sorry to disagree with other reviewers, but this Marinade was not impressive and we feel didn't add much to the chicken. My BH is an excellent cook and loves to BBQ, so we thought this would be something different for our grilled chicken. It was too liquidy, didn't taste anthing other than the oil or soy sauce (too much if you ask me). And we feel it didn't do much to tenderize the chicken. I feel that once you "brine" poultry you can't go back to other recipes for tenderizing. I was hoping that the marinade would at least give this chicken some flavor, but it didn't work for me. Sorry!

Balsamic Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2008
I followed it the way stated, but the outcome was not impressive. The potatoes were dry and not flavorful like I had expected. I also would like to note that even though we used a non-stick spray the garlic & spices stuck to the ovenware & was terrible to clean. I would suggest lining with foil and then spraying with Pam (or other brand). I don't believe I will be doing these again. Sorry!

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
This was an easy recipe to make though I found the dough to be too light and airy. I would have preferred the airly without the light. Not quite the texture for me. Not bad for those who don't want a lot of condiments, more dough.

Crusty Potato Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
I would have given this recipe 5 stars if the crust was a bit more firm. The recipe was easy, the bread was okay, it fell apart easier than I felt it should. I was a bit disappointed.

Lemon Basil Pesto Flat Iron Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
As we thought, most of the outer ingredients fell off on the grill, plus it flamed up a bit. The only flavor that stood out (for us) was the garlic. 4 minutes per side wasn't long enough & our steak was pretty thin. I don't think we'll be doing this one again.

Fra Diavolo Sauce With Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2005
This was a very good meal. Quite different from what we are used to and a nice way to use shrimp & scallops together. I only used 1/2 the pasta, but feel that we should have used all of the canned tomatoes (2 cans), it needed a bit more sauce. We also didn't use so much red pepper flakes. I can't do too much heat. But, all in all, this was very very good. Worth making again.

Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2005
This is a very easy recipe. I feel that it needed a kick. I would suggest using Pepper Jack cheese inside and regular M.Jack on the outside. Or just use all of Pepper Jack. It reminded me of the seafood enchiladas that I had in New Market, very good. I would make this again. It seems like a fun recipe to experiment with. Thanks!!
