Basboosa II

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2011
5 star, but slight changes... make sure to use the #2 semolina flour. Next only use 3/4 cup sugar in batter. In the syrup, I used rose flavoring. Plus I only used 3/4cup water and 1/2 cup sugar to make syrup. I decorated it with sliced almonds which I already had on hand. And after pouring the syrup on, I broiled it in the oven for around 5 minute. When cooking in oven pay attention. Cooks faster than you think. Lowered my oven temp to 335-340. Everyone loved it and I never made it before, so good luck.

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
This recipe is ok, but a couple of changes need to be made. First, not as much sugar!!! And you need to add a little hot sauce. I think next time I will take the advice of chopping some onion with garlic to begin with. I will try to make this again.

Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
DELICIOUS!!! And LOW in FAT! I did use lemon cake mix and added lemon pudding mix as well. And for the frosting I used lemon pudding mix again. And make sure you do mix the batter for the full amount of time! This cake was deliciously moist and the icing turned out unbelievable! It just melted in your mouth. A Definite Keeper!

Lemon Bread

I very much enjoyed this recipe but I did make a couple of changes as sugested by others. First I added less sugar only 3/4 cup. And I used egg beaters instead of 2 eggs. A little more healthy. This one is a keeper. Next time I will double the recipe to make more.

Banana Bread I

Good and easy to make. But don't think I'm too much of a banana bread person. And the kids didn't really care for it either.

Best Brownies

These were Delicious! I did double the recipe and baked it in a 9x13 inch pan. You must add chopped walnuts it taste even better! I didn't use all of the icing because then it would have been way too much. Do make and do enjoy.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2004
This was alright. Very filling/hearty! I halved the recipe, but used the full amount of olives, tomatotes&chiles. Plus a added cayenne pepper and taco seasoning. Oh and a dash of ground cumin. I will probably make again. But next time a will make the layers thinner.

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2004
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! I was Nervous at first, especially after reading all the conflicting reviews. And to top it off, I've never made cake from scratch before. But this turned out Perfect! Moist! Delicious! The cake is a little heavy, but it doesn't matter. And make sure you serve it a room temperture. It taste much more delicious that way!! So here's my advice... DO NOT follow the directions in the cookbook!!! The one on the website is perfect. Although I did cook it at about 290 and it was done in about 40-45 minutes, so keep an eye on it. Plus, the icing is was too much! You only need to make half of it. At the Very Maximum a third of what it calls for. And I topped it off with roasted chopped walnuts, Perfect! I will Definatly Make Again and Again!!!

Marylou's Chicken El Toro

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2004
This recipe defiantly needs some help, otherwise it's just salsa and chicken. Not very appealing. First off, I added some finely crushed garlic to my onions for frying. I also added some fresh chopped chilies to fry also. It really bring the taste out, but be careful not to add too much if you don't like it spicy. When adding my shredded chicken to my onions. I stirred that around for awhile before adding the salsa to bring the flavor to the chicken. Before leaving it to simmer, add some ground cumin and coriander. And taste it to see if it needs any cayenne powder. About half way through simmering add some black beans. And last but not least, toast your flour tortillas. I put mine in the toaster and turned out Excellent! Don't forget your sour cream, and enjoy. I will defiantly make again! My Husband Loved it!!!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2004
Wow! I've never made pizza crust from scratch before, but it turned out Great! I 1/2ed the recipe. And it was the perfect size, about a medium large. I did think it might need just a little more salt add. Plus, if you use a baking sheet/etc. make sure you cook it on your bottom rack of your oven. Also let it cook about 8-9 minutes before putting on your toppings.

Gyroll

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2004
My Husband Loved it!!! But I don't like lamb to strong of a flavor for me, so I give it a 4 1/2. But it was fun to make. I suggest placing the dough on waxed papper, lightly floured. It makes it much Easier when rolling it up. And no mess. I would be careful on how much salt you add. Remember that you can always add more. Other than that, Enjoy :)

Chicken and Dumplings III

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
UNBELIEVABLE!!! I was a little Nervous in making this dish, since I have never tried before but this is one dish you just have to try!!! I did make adjustments and added some stuff that was suggested by other people... I used chicken breast instead of thighs. I used 1/2 chicken broth and 1/2 water, I also added chopped carrotts to the water. Towards the end when everything was cooking I added some canned sweet peas that I had. Oh, and when I added the soup and everything together, I also added some fresh chopped up mushrooms. Everything came together Wonderfully!!! My husband LOVED it!!! Maybe a little too much :)
