Mom's Country Gravy

This is what we affectionately call "poor man's gravy" in my area! I always have made it with bacon grease and yes - you do need to cook the roux for a while to keep it from tasting floury. Also, you need to cook it until it comes to a boil. If it thickens too much, add a little more milk. While this recipe is good - it is much better with fat from cooking bacon or sausage.

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

This pie is now on my favorites list. I used large lemons, so the taste of lemons was a little strong, bit still fabulous. Next time, I'll use smaller lemons. The lemon curd set up quite nicely and sliced and served beautifully.
