I have just been told (6/13) I need to switch to low carb in a serious way. I love most things white, sweet, crispy, salty, plus a diet soda addict.
Also there are now just two of us and I always seem to overcook in quantity.
I love our three chihuahuas, of which one is a rescue and my favorite - don't tell the others.
I have many cookbooks. Some of my favorite include my Grammy's gift to Mom a 1918 edition of Fannie Merritt Farmer's Boston Cooking-School Cookbook (sentimental), The New Best Recipe Cookbook (explains why choices of ingredients or cooking methods were chosen), and the ever basic Joy of Cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Stir fries, One pot meals, and Roasted veggies.
I like Southwestern flavors - onion, garlic, cumin, fresh chili, sweet peppers for color, lime juice, a bit of fresh cilantro. Best choice - fajitas (shrimp, beef, or pork are my favorites). And posole verde - a pork and hominy stew with a poblano chilis.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays - Mashed sweet potatoes, with OJ, brown sugar, cinnamon, a pinch of salt, all stuffed into scooped out halves of oranges.
Grilled cheese sandwiches and cream of tomato soup for a cold day.
Shepherd's pie as a comfort meal.
Pineapple or other fruit upside down cake for my brother's birthday; peach pie for mine.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking with whatever is already in my kitchen.
My cooking tragedies
Oh my gosh - the worst one was a chicken in cream sauce with vegetables.
I was going to make it using a can of evaporated milk and grabbed a can of condensed milk instead. Needless to say, we ate out.
