The Ultimate Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2013
Maybe I shouldn't give this 5 stars because I didn't follow the recipe exactly, but that was because I didn't have all the ingredients and just used what I had on hand. But this recipe was the base for some of the best chili I have made in awhile so I'm giving it 5 stars. Changes I made: 2 pint jars of home canned plain tomatoes, 2 cans of beans (one kidney and one cannellini), 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar and added some onion and garlic, no red wine or bell pepper. And after I browned the ground meat (used venison), I used the pan to saute the onion, garlic and celery in a little olive oil before adding to the crock pot.

Easy Chicken Cutlets with Apples

Reviewed: May 16, 2012
Made this for a weeknight dinner. It was indeed easy and so very tasty with a touch of fancy. I didn't have any sherry or Marsala wine so I did what another reviewer did and used white wine (Riesling). Turned out great. Will definitely make this again.

Mac and Cheese II

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for when searching mac and cheese recipes. Just your basic mac and cheese without any spices or seasonings. Very easy to make. I've made this many times over. Perfect!

Soft Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
Oh my! I added about 10oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips and only added 1 tsp vanilla, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Oh my! This recipe is AWESOME!

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
Perfect! I was drawn to this recipe because it did not start out beating the eggs for 5 minutes like so many others. This recipe is much simpler. I also like that it used a full 1 cup measurement of pumpkin puree. Every year I make homemade pumpkin puree from pie pumpkins and freeze in 1 pint (2 cup) containers. This recipe is perfect for 2 pumpkin rolls with no left overs. I use a 10X15 jelly roll pan lined with parchment paper. This pumpkin roll came out perfect every time I have made it.

Sweet and Sour Sauce I

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
This was really really good. My husband who hasn't really liked my previous attempts at homemade sweet and sour sauce because he likes the store bought stuff in a bottle better, well, he loved this sauce. I did replace 1/2 of the water with 1/3 cup pineapple juice and I mixed the cornstarch with the 1/3 cup of water and added that after the other ingredients were already boiling. Other than that everything else was as written. Thank you!

Salsa Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
I LOVE the mix of flavors in this recipe. I altered the proportions a bit to suit my taste i.e. less meat, kept the rice amount the same and only one can of soup and mixed with 1 cup of salsa. And only 2 cups of cheese. Made in an 11 X 7 pan. Terrific!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
This was perfect! I was making chicken taco burgers and the recipe called for 1/2 packet of taco seasoning. I hate having an open packet left over because I always forget it is there and it ends up spilling or going to waste. So I made this instead and added the appropriate amount of the mix. Homemade is so much better! Great mix!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
I am not a big fan of white bread, but my husband loves it so I made this recipe for him. Turned out to be one of the best recipes I have ever used. The loaf was so soft and sweet. PERFECT! I made the second loaf into cinnamon swirl bread that I ate as toast with my breakfast. YUMMY!

Four-Grain Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
Ok, maybe I shouldn't review this recipe because I did change some things, BUT THANK YOU John!!!! Your recipe was the base for the most scrumptious loaf of bread even though I had to make substitutions for ingredients I didn't have. My changes: I used 1 full cup of rye flour instead of 3/4c and 1/2 cup of seven grain cereal mix instead of the cornmeal. I used brown sugar because I didn't have any honey and only used 1/4 cup. I also added 2 Tbsp vegetable oil because I always add a little oil/fat to my bread. All the other ingredients were as written in the recipe. I let the bread machine make the dough and then shaped it into a loaf and put it in a 9X5 bread pan. Let rise for 45 minutes and baked for 35 minutes at 375 degrees. Buttered the top. Oh my!!!!! Too good!!!!!

Cheese Herb Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
I LOVED this bread! I didn't have any dry milk powder so I used powdered buttermilk. Also added 1/2 tsp garlic powder. The ratio of dry to wet ingredients was perfect. Oh, I only used 2 tsp of yeast though. I will definitely make this again.

Hasenpfeffer (Rabbit Stew)

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2008
This was the best rabbit I have ever eaten! I used a wild cottontail rabbit and it turned out so flavorful, moist and tender. I didn't have the boullion granules so I just substituted the water with chicken broth. I also didn't have currant jelly so I used black raspberry jelly. The gravy is SO good. I'll definitely be using this recipe again.

Honey Wheat Bread II

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2003
This recipe turned out perfectly! I used the dough cycle on my bread machine to mix the dough (make sure your bread machine is big enough to handle the two loaves). I also added more honey. Then I shaped, let rise and baked the loaves as stated in the recipe. Excellent!

Whole Wheat Bread III

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2003
I loved this recipe! I was a little worried about the 100% wheat flour not rising enough so I added about 1/2 tbsp of vital gluten. I also ended up adding about 1/8 cup more flour to make the dough the right consistency. Oh, and I mixed the dough on the dough setting of my bread machine, then put the dough in a 9 X 5 bread pan to rise and baked it at 375 degrees for about 30-35 minutes. I think this was the best whole wheat bread I have ever made. Thanks!

Whole Wheat Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2002
This is a great banana bread recipe. The whole wheat flour gives it a great texture and taste. This bread is very moist too. I have made this bread several times and usually it is done after 50 minutes of baking instead of the 55-60 minutes stated in the recipe.
