Apple Pie Filling

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
Since I had just bought a 1/2 bushel of fresh Granny Smith apples from the orchards up in N. Georgia Mountains. I followed the advice of a couple of different ladies, because of the juice in the fresh apples. I reduced the water to only 5 cups and went with 24 cups of sliced apples and decreased the amount of cornstarch by 1/3 cup. I have to say that was BRILLIANT. It came out perfect. I used 3 tsp. of Apple Pie Seasonings, and 1/2 brown sugar, 1/2 reg. sugar. Wonderful

Perfect Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
This is the best apple pie I have ever made. followed the recipe exactly. Did not use the crust part though I was pressed for time. I used store crust. We went up to ellajay (north GA Mtns.) to the apple farms and brought back a heepen helpen of apples. I used Arkansas Black apples which are a perfect baking apple. Turned out wonderful. Thanks

Baked Corn Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
this was a very good corn pudding. I did add some chopped onion and red pepper, in which I saute them in the butter. Also used my own corn and creamed corn that I had frozen from my garden. Since I used fresh corn from the garden I halved the sugar which my husband said I should have left the sugar out completely. It turned out really good.

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
out of all the gingerbread recipes on allrecipes, i chose this one because of it being so basic. it is a wonderful recipe. i made no changes or add on's except i did take the advise of a few reviewers to double the cinnamon and ginger. it came out very moist, despite what some viewers said. just a all around wonderful spicey cake. very pleased. will keep this as my gingerbread recipe.

Tex-Mex Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2008
THE SOUP WAS VERY GOOD. I CHANGED THE SERVINGS TO 6. I MADE THE RECIPE JUST AS DIRECTED. I ADDED A FEW SIMPLE INGREDIENTS. I ADDED SOME CHOPPED RED PEPPER AND COOKED IT WITH THE ONIONS UNTIL THEY BOTH WERE SOFT. I USED PACE PICANTE SAUCE (MILD). ANY MEXICAN OR TEX MEX DISH CAN'T BE WITHOUT CILENTRO, SO I ADDED ABOUT 2 TABLESPOONS AT THE END OF THE COOKING PROCESS. THE 6 SERVINGS CALLED FOR A WHOLE BOX OF CREAM CHEESE(8oz) BUT TO ME THAT SEEMED TO BE A LITTLE TO MUCH AND I DID NOT WANT TO OVERPOWER IT'S TAST WITH CREAM CHEESE, SO I ONLY ADDED HALF, WHICH WAS PERFECT. AND AT THE END I BLENDED WITH A IMMERSION BLENDER JUST A COUPLE OF TIMES. TURNED OUT GREAT.

Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2008
this is a fantastic salsa. i did change and add a few things. i cooked a 2lb recipe for 8. i have learned over the years a few things about cooked blender recipes. i put all the ingredients in a blender first and blended it all together. and then cooked the recipe for about 15 min. if you do it this way you do not have to add any water, it makes it's own juices, and comes out just right, not to thick and not to thin (trust me) i did add 2 poblano chile's insted of the other. and i added the juice of 1 lime(really makes a difference)i did add 2 chicken bouillion cubes while cooking, it came out the best fresh salsa that i have had in a long time

Best Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: May 20, 2008
Very good soup. followed the ingredients just as stated but followed the advice of a few other reviewers. insted of cooking the veggies in the water in the beggining, i sauted the onion, carrots anc celery in the butter until tender. I added the broccoli and some diced uncooked chicken breast and only cooked it until the broccoli and chicken breast were cooked. I don't care for dark mushy broccoli. It turned out very fresh tasting. we all loved it. will be a recipe that goes in my box.

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2008
this is a great soup. i did however add and subtract from the recipe. i did not add the spinach and vin. i did add a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes insted of a smaller one it gave it more flavor and i added more salt and pepper. i used italian seasoning and little pasta tubes at the end. NOTE: lentils need a few hours to cook till tender. this soup was wonderful and simple.

Maryland Crab Cakes II

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
i rated these 4 stars because i know i made the mistakes in this one. and i know you guys are going to call me a stupid head. i did not have fresh crab meat. i used canned(because it's what i had). i added old bay seasonings along with the salt and it was way to salty. so omit the salt if using old bay seasonings. other than that, i know if i would have used fresh lump crab meat it would have been great. but it tasted like a salty old salmon patty. had to make a cucumber raita sauce to cool down the salt.

Butternut Squash Soup II

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
i gave this recipe 5 stars because it is a really good base to work with. i made it just the way it says, with all the ingredients it says. i only added a few things. i roasted the squash so it would not soak up water, i also roasted on the same pan of the squash a whole head of garlic, i added chopped sweet potatoes and did put in the celery, just make sure to chop it small. did not add sour cream at all, it would change the flavor completley. at the end i add a little sage. we sprinkled a little red pepper on top in our bowels. turned out fantastic.

Fantastic Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2007
when i started to make this recipe just as it says, there was not enough to feed a family of four or even three. and it was way to thick. i added 1 regular can of hunts tomato sauce and 1 can of chicken broth to thin it out. added a little more of the seasonings and some salt. it turned out very good.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2007
it was okay. i went with one of the reviewers and halfed the ketchup with bbq sauce. it was very much on the sweet side. it needed something, so i added a little dales marinaide. still too sweet. maybe next time i will use a hickory flavored bbq sauce.

Cuban Black Beans II

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
These beans were fantastic. I read quite a few reviews before starting these beans. I decided that I would make them straight from the recipe given. I made the right decision. With my expierence at cooking raw beans, I knew that they would not cook in a couple of hours. They need to cook most of the day. The results are wonderful. I just added a little more salt at the end. p.s. spoon them over some brown rice and you have a wonderful low fat healthy meal.

Oregon Salmon Patties

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
WONDERFUL. I DID NOT HAVE FRESH PARSLEY, WHICH I'M SURE WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN BETTER. I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS TO THE T THE ONLY THING I DID ADD WAS A LITTLE LEMON JUICE AND SALT AND PEPPER. WE ATE THEM WITH A SIMPLE TARTER SAUCE. MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH LOVED THEM. THIS IS MY RECIPE FOR SALMON PATTIES FROM NOW ON.
