Citrus Yogurt Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
Delicious. Everybody liked it. Using yogurt instead of whipping cream or sour cream is a healthier alternative.

Williamsburg Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
I used orange to replace the liqueur. The flavour of the frosting is very good. A few of the reviewers said the frosting was dry. But I have made this frosting many times already, as a filling for the Williamsburg Orange Cake (also from this website) and as a frosting for cupcakes (same cake recipe). As a filling it is great. Used as a frosting for a cake or cupcakes, I find it a bit soft. Perhaps it has to do with my hot and humid tropical climate - I live in Malaysia. But I will continue to use it because it smells and tastes great, and it's refreshingly different from the usual buttercream frosting. I just put the cake with the frosting in the fridge to set overnight before taking it anywhere.

Williamsburg Orange Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
I have made this many times already, as a cake as well as cupcakes (makes 24 medium-size). It's a lovely cake - moist, soft and full of orange flavour. You can substitute part of the vanilla extract with orange oil, but the recipe is fine just the way it is. Sometimes I make the Williamsburg frosting as filling for a cake, or as topping for cupcakes. As frosting, it will be rather soft, so you must chill the cake with the frosting for a few hours before you take it out anywhere. And the frosting will melt in hot weather (I live in a tropical country).

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2012
The cake has a rich dark chocolatey flavour, accentuated by the flavour of the strong brewed coffee. I baked two of these cakes for a charity sale and decorated them with the Creamy Chocolate Frosting from the website. I had customers coming back for seconds, and bringing their friends to buy it too :). Great recipe and not hard to make, thanks!

Creamy Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2012
It was easy to make and tasted great! In fact, it tasted even better than the cake :-). The only change I made was to substitute half of the butter with shortening, because the frosting on the cake had to withstand the hot Malaysian weather (not going to be in an air-conditioned room).

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2012
Great presentation & good taste. Looks pro too. But instead of drizzling white chocolate, I used other things like sprinkles & lightly toasted nut bits. I made these for Valentine's Day 2012! :-)

Four Cheese Margherita Pizza

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2011
I couldn't get Fontina & Feta at the local store, so I just used Mozarella, Parmesan & Cheddar. Turned out fantastic. Used Jay's Signature Pizza Crust recipe from allrecipes.com too. Great stuff. The 1st time I ever made pizza (from scratch too) & it was great! :-)

Mini Poppy Seed Loaves

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2011
I followed the list of ingredients & instructions exactly, but I baked all of it in one 9" loaf, instead of 3 mini loaves. Baking time was longer as a result, of course. I baked it at 175 degrees Celcius. Took about 40-45 mins. Turned out lovely. Smelled & tasted really good! Thanks for a great recipe :-)

Shiny Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
I didn't have any bittersweet chocolate on hand, so I used cooking chocolate. And I didn't have any corn syrup, so I just added 1 tbsp. of icing sugar. Turned out shiny & tasted good. My mini cupcakes looked very nice with the shiny glaze, with white chocolate rice sprinkled on top. Thanks for a simple & great recipe :-)

The Best Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
Couldn't find steak sauce in the local shop, so used BBQ sauce instead. Baked for 50 mins in an aluminium foil-lined loaf tin. Turned out soft & flavourful. Will definitely make it again. Thanks for a great recipe - easy & quite healthy :-)

Nada's Baba Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2011
I followed the other reviewer's suggestions - added 1/4 cup milk (equivalent to 4 tbsps) and 1/2 tsp. baking powder. Turned out perfect. And I used vanilla essence & regular granulated sugar. I mixed tbsp. cocoa powder with 1/4 cup of the batter, then added little bit by little bit more batter till I got a thick viscous pouring consistency. Then, I poured the main batter into the tube mould, then swirled the cocoa mixture by the spoonfuls all around. Came out of the oven with a nice swirl design :)

Welfare Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly, and it turned out just like a cake I would buy from a supermarket (the no-frills type sans frosting). Easy to make & tastes & smells good. I put on some frosting I made from another recipe I got at this website & it was great! Thanks :-)

Wedding Cake Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2011
Great recipe. I was looking for an icing recipe that could withstand the hot tropical weather outside, but I stopped at 4 cups of sugar & it was just nice. Many of my friends don't want to eat sweet things these days. Thanks!

Soybean Milk

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2011
I make my own Soybean milk, and this recipe is definitely workable. I agree with a reviewer that we have to squeeze the soybean milk out of the strainer/cheese cloth. And yes, you can use the leftover ground soybeans in recipes. For a healthy twist, I mix this with an equal amount of ground beef to make my own burgers. If the burgers do not stick well, just add a bit of corn starch to the mixture. Season with salt, black pepper & your choice of herbs to taste. :-)
