German Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2014
This was my first time making a German Chocolate cake from scratch and I was a bit nervous since it was for my husband's birthday. He absolutely loves German Chocolate cake. There is a lot to the recipe and it did take some time but it was well worth it. It was very moist and yummy, just as a cake should be. I think the cake flour makes all the difference. I did not use this recipe for the filling/frosting though. I took another reviewer's advice and used the recipe on the back of the Baker's German Chocolate box. It made more than enough to cover the top and fill the cake layers whereas some people indicated that this recipe didn't. I will definitely make this again for my husband's next birthday.

I usually just make white rice in my rice cooker but I love the taste of rice pilaf and this is great! Easy to make too.

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken

Reviewed: May 16, 2013
Very good! I don't know if the lime flavor came across very boldly for me but it was a nice, subtle flavor and we used it to make nachos. Family loved it!

Great recipe for meatloaf! My hubby usually despises meatloaf but this is the only one he'll eat. That's a keeper!

Judy's Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Reviewed: May 16, 2013
Fantabulous! The only change is that next time, I'll check to see if the frozen strawberries I buy are cut. I opened the bag to pour on the strawberries and they were whole so it didn't look very pretty. Might try raspberries and raspberry jello next time.

Love these! Made them for neighbors last Christmas! We use Rolos and I also melt some white chocolate and drizzle that on top of each turtle. Yum! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Lemonade Cookies

Wow. I am not sure what happened with these. We followed the recipe to a T and they were awful. Soggy and so lemony. Entire batch went in the garbage. Wish they would have worked for us.

Garlic Prime Rib

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2011
Made this last Christmas and it was awesome! I've never made prime rib before but it turned out perfect. The only change I made is that I cooked at 460 degrees for the 12 minutes, then 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Then baked at 325 for an hour and a half (took these suggestions based on another review and worked great).

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
Oh my gosh, this is fabulous!! My first batch I cooked for the full hour and I did not like that at all--has the consistency of Cracker Jack, which I don't like. My husband liked that one though. So my next batch I only cooked for 15 minutes in the oven and then took it out. That was perfect!! Needless to say, it's all gone for Christmas gifts and now my kids are asking me to make more. This recipe is a keeper!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
This is a good recipe but as others have mentioned, the measurements are way off. For me, I put in 6 tsp of milk with the sugar and then mixed until smooth. Then I added the 2 tsp corn syrup. I nixed the extract. I tried peppermint extract in the first batch but it tasted like eating toothpaste, so the next batch, I just didn't add any extract. Next time I might add vanilla. The icing dries nice and smooth on the cookie. With 2 batches of icing, I had enough to decorate about 64 sugar cookies.

Holiday Peppermint Bark

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
This is a very good recipe. It tastes much like those Hershey's white chocolate/peppermint kisses! Very easy to make. I added a bit of peppermint extract to the chocolate and I didn't melt the chips in the microwave but in a double boiler. Worked great! I did try the first batch with dark chocolate on the bottom and it worked out okay but I think I like just the plain white chocolate better. I also sprinkled some candy cane "dust" in with the white chocolate after it was melted but before I put in the pan and it makes it look very nice.

Best Toffee Ever - Super Easy

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
This recipe is the BEST! It's so easy too! I have never made any candy before and I was worried about this, but I had no problems and the candy turned out perfect! I was worried about the separation factor that many people talked about, but I did what a few reviewers suggested and it worked out. Basically, I whisked the sugar/salt/butter mixture until it started boiling, then I left it alone, and didn't stir again until it had reached 285 degrees and was ready to be poured in the pan. I had no separation issues using this method. The toffee is soft and so good. I will definitely be making this again and thanks for sharing the recipe with all of us!

Garden Pork Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
This is a very good family meal. We used different colored peppers to add some color, exchanged green onions for the white onion, and put it with spaghetti noodles rather than rice. Good flavor to it. I definitely like using cloves of garlic rather than powder.

Apple Kuchen

This is good! I didn't use the coconut and exchanged brown sugar for white as I think it gives desserts a better flavor. Easy to make too, which is always a good thing.
