Sunday Morning Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2011
Excellent! I served it with berry compote (just frozen berries defrosted and heated slightly), which was a perfect match. If I made it again, I might try a few more poppy seeds and a little more lemon. But mostly just would keep it the same!

Stuffed Peppers My Way

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
Excellent! As per other reviews, I cut down on the salt (salt in feta was enough) and added fresh herbs (basil). I also cooked the peppers for slightly less time than suggested in the recipe, as I think they look and taste better when they're not overly soft. I've made this a number of times, basically when I have stir-fry or other leftovers. Almost better this way, as the flavours have time to set in. Also looks very flash for company! One option is to just slice of the top of the peper (rather than lengthways), take out the seeds, then fill with mixture and put the top back on for presentation.

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
Excellent! Followed the recipe to a T, adding the optional raisins. Might have been a bit bland without them, but with them they were great!

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
Really fantastic - truly gourmet! I added twice the amount of wine and equivalently less broth, as suggested, very good idea. I also added broccoli about halfway through the broth-pouring, which worked well. Also added 2 cloves of chopped garlic after the first broth-pour. It took me a good deal longer than 20 minutes - maybe 35? So be prepared. I cooked chicken breasts on the side and served on top. Very nice!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
Yum! Really lovely pie. One or two tips only: first, remember to cover the edges of the crust with tin foil so they don't burn! Next, sprinkle the apples with nutmeg and cinnamon and mix them around before putting them in the pie. It will give it a much nicer, slightly spicy taste.

Day Before Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
Nice and creamy, with just a bit of tang from the sour cream (which normally I don't like, but I did in this!) The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it could use a bit more spice. Next time I may try adding garlic powder or paprika? In general, though, great recipe.

The World's Best Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
I've made this turkey for the last 2 years (for about 8 people), and it's turned out to be fantastic each time. the meat is so moist it practically falls off the bird. This year I added a handful of fresh, chopped rosemary inside and outside of the bird, which made it wonderfully fragrant.

Cranberry, Sausage and Apple Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
Yum! I've tried a lot of stuffing recipes, and they never seem to turn out well, but this was a huge hit! I substituted raisins for cranberries, which was great, and used one onion instead of the leeks. Cooked in a casserole dish instead of a turkey, which meant I added at least twice the amount of chicken broth. Worked very well!

Chocolate Cheesecake II

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2006
My goodness - fantastic recipe! I followed it to the T and it came out wonderfully. A friend even said it was the best dessert she had ever tasted! Note - I used a large pie dish, as I didn't have a springform pan. I just used a little less filling than called for and it was fine. I actually disagree with those who disliked the hard chocolate top. I found it was a nice change, as long as you're expecting it. Beware, however, that this is extremely filling, so if you're cooking for a smaller number, make sure to cut the recipe!

Fettuccine Alfredo V

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2003
I'm sure this recipe is great, given all the 5-star ratings out there, but I wanted to put in a warning to all novice cookers - if you're a beginning cook, this can be quite difficult to make! It's very easy, for example, to burn the garlic, or to let the cream boil too much, or to overcook the egg, or to not get a smooth consistency. By all means try it at home, but maybe stay away from using this recipe for the first time at a dinner party!

Fettucine Carbonara

I've made this one countless times. People always love it - and it seems so fancy, even though it's fairly simple! More importantly, *I* love it.

Amazingly good! One of my favorite recipes from this site. If you get a pre-made crust, it's incredibly easy to prepare.
