I believe most of my triumphs in the kitchen are due to this rule.. 1) Never try a recipe for the very first time when you are expecting company.
My cooking tragedies
I suppose my most despised mishap is when I make a mess of the oven.

Sweetheart Cupcakes
I've made these quite a few times. This last time I didn't have a white cake mix so I used the recipe Simple White Cake on AR as an alternative. The method is easy but I sure made a huge pile of dishes making them :)

Simple White Cake
I doubled this recipe and it came out well. Since I wanted the cake to be nice and white I only used the egg whites and discarded the yolks. Divided the batter into three parts and added food color to two of the parts thus making red, white and blue for July 4th. Used half butter and half shortening to insure moistness. It made 18 lrg cupcakes. I found this cake to be dense and more muffin texture than I would like. This probably wouldn't be the case if I had used cake flour. Not too sweet. I used almond extract instead of vanilla. These were great.

Luscious Lemon Triangles
Nice lemon flavor. I halved the recipe and used an 8x8 glass pan lined with parchment. Glad I used the parchment. Nice lemon flavor with a crisp crust. The crust took about 18 minutes in my oven. I poked holes in it before baking. The filling bake did take 25 minutes. The parchment made it nice and easy to remove the bars from the pan to a cutting board. The next day they tasted even better
