About this Cook
I am a 20 year old going to Lincoln Culinary Institute in Connecticut. I started in January as a baking and pastry student and graduate March 2012. I LOVE going to school every day. I'm so glad I've found something I love to do after 2 and a half years at a university. Also, I have a 9 month old australian shepherd who is always under my feet in the kitchen and cleans up whatever I drop on the floor :)
My favorite things to cook
I love baking bread. The process is very soothing to me. Also pate a choux, pastry cream (I eat it by the spoonful), and lots of cookies & cupcakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have NO CLUE where my culinary genes come from haha my family sticks basic recipes in the kitchen. Although I did grow up making apple pie. LOTS of apple pie..

Pastry Cream
This pastry cream has an okay taste, but the consistency is way off. I always strain my pastry cream before folding in the butter, and first it didn't thicken on the stove, so I tried to see if I kept it on for a minute to boil (still whisking) it would thicken.. it didn't. So I strained it and then folded in the butter. After a few minutes cooling on the counter with plastic wrap on the top, it started to get lumpy. As a baking and pastry culinary student, I will continue using the recipe I was given from my chef instructor. Also I have never heard of anyone adding any egg white to pastry cream..

Marble Cake I
I made this recipe to the "t", but it came out very dry and unflavorful. There's definitely not enough cocoa powder for the chocolate part, and the ratio of vanilla to chocolate wasn't even. Also, it was dry and seemed like more of a muffin/biscuit crumb than cake.
