About this Cook
I am the cook for my very picky husband and 15 year old son, luckily my diabetic mother and 6 year old daughter are open to try most anything(even eel). I have to be versatile and creative to please such varied taste buds. I love to experiment with new flavors and ingredients. I prefer homemade to prepackaged and spend a lot of time reading reviews and blogs about food. I can jam, jelly, chutney every summer. Last summers favorite was peach jam, yum. I love to cook for my family and friends, it's my way of giving them something special. I've been cooking for 32 years and I'm still learning thanks to all the useful information on sites like this. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to leave comments!!!
My favorite things to cook
Dessert is my favorite, I LOVE to bake. When I'm out of sorts baking something sweet for my family always makes me feel better. I'm learning to make candy, not easy by the way. I love my pressure cooker! Slow cooked beef tacos is one of my families favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies, candy, sweet bread are my gifts to loved ones. My daughter and I spend a lot of cold evenings together making cookies and memories. I pick strawberries every June with my dad and my kids. Blackberries in August and making jam and jelly for gifts is now my tradition. My mother has been picking berries since she was 3 years old in Alaska, now she and I and my daughter pick together every summer. I am a very blessed lady to have such a beautiful family and traditions to bond us together.
My cooking triumphs
Seafoam candy, or sponge candy, second try and it was perfect. Plum bbq sauce, really good.
My cooking tragedies
Many batches of nougat have failed, I have yet to make a batch that is the right consistency.

Creamy Earl Grey Rice Pudding
This is the best rice pudding I've made, my daughter took the bowl and didn't want to give it back. The only change I made was 3 tbls brown sugar, 1and1/2 tbls spenda for the agave. Thanks for the recipe, the tea makes all the difference. I'll be making this again.

Scottish Shortbread II
This is better than my favorite red box brand Scottish shortbread cookies. Added 1/4 tsp vanilla and 1/8 tsp almond extract. My kids loved it!!!
