About this Cook
Moved from the city to a small town where I can't find tamari sauce or champagne vinegar, but I am learning to cook the vegetables that we are growing in our garden without them
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles, pork, quick breads, stir-fry, & veggies
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pumpkin pie, striped cake and Nannie green beans
My cooking triumphs
Panini sandwiches based on our trip to Italy and Chinese stir-fry based on our trip to China
My cooking tragedies
Tofu meatloaf (an oxymoron), home-made pickles that didn't pickle, and sweet potatoes with marshmallows that landed upside down under the Thanksgiving dining table

Honey Garlic Vinaigrette
I used garlic powder cuz had no real garlic and added a bit of parsley cuz I like green spots in my dressings so I can see where I put it, other than that I followed the recipe with the very available ingredients. Thanks!

Red Wine Pork
Kudos to Harriet! I was looking for a recipe on this site for a pork roast that didn't involved BBQ sauce. This one was excellent (!) and my husband told me to be sure and save it. I followed the recipe for the most part; added some chopped potatoes and apples when I put in the carrots because I need to eat more vegetables/fruit. Used an Argentinian Malbec as my red wine, plus a little water so I would have plenty of au jus. Don't replace the bacon grease or butter as they create the wonderful flavor in this dish.

Hawaiian Smoked Sausage
Reminds me of a dish my mother made when I was a kid. It was good then and now. My grand kids like this, too. I made a couple of changes to suit my family's tastes. Used less ginger and less apricot preserves in the sauce. Also, I sauteed the sausage first and used the leftover grease from it in the skillet to cook the vegetables, as I find most smoked sausage is rather greasy. I drained the sausage on paper towels before adding it back in to the vegetables and sauce.
