About this Cook
I developed my interest in cooking at a young age when I would watch my Mother at the stove preparing family meals.
My favorite things to cook
I love preparing slow cooked foods like pot roasts, boiled dinners, soups and stews. I avoid cooking fish and seafood because I'm just not very good at it. I get my fill at local restaurants since I live near the Ocean.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Corned beef at Christmas, chestnut stuffing at Thanksgiving, potato salad in the summer, stuffed peppers in the fall.... the list goes on and on. I also like to try new things and incorporate them into my family dinners.
My cooking triumphs
I appreciated my Mom's cooking as a youngster but had a very narrow palate. To overcome my 'fussy eater' syndrome, I incorporated New Recipe of the Week into my family meals. This opened my mind to new flavors and ways of cooking. I am proud that my grown daughters practice New Recipe of the Week in their homes, too.
My cooking tragedies
I can't take credit for this one, but it is amusing. My mother-in-law as a new bride salted the ham before cooking. I knew a bit more than that as a newlywed.

Grandmother's Pork Chop Dinner
I followed the directions closely except I poured off some of the bacon grease, browned the chops before adding potatoes and used 1/2 cup chicken broth instead of water. My husband really liked the dish, but I thought it lacked flavor.

Fresh Tomato Pie
I can't believe I ate the whole thing! I won't be making this unless I have company to share it with or I might eat it all again. I followed other's advice and browned the crust and lined it with basil leaves, added bacon and a bit more cheese. Wonderful!!!

Dick and Red's Bacon Clam Dip
I made this dip (added some green onions) and took it to a neighborhood social. I liked it, but at the end of the evening it was hardly touched. Party-goers finished up the crab dip, spinach dip, and other old favorites almost completley ignoring this offering. I guess it wasn't tasty enough.
