Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2012
I wish you could give half stars cause this would have been about a 3.5. For me, I could really taste the shortening. I added more butter to make it a more butter to shortening ratio and it was better, but I could still taste it. This wasn't bad, it tasted pretty good, I just didn't like the shortening taste. The consistancy was nice and thick and would be good for decorating I believe. Good recipe, just too much shortening.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
This frosting was awesome. It cooked up just fine for me. For those that think this is turning out runny, try cooking at higher heat while constantly stirring... this thickened for me in about 15, maybe 20 minutes. And also, you can add more coconut to thicken it. I had never tried to make this icing and it is just so much easier than I had thought it would be. Don't be intimidated, it really is simple and tastes GREAT!!!

Alabama Fire Crackers

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2012
These were really good. Very spicy so if you aren't a fan of spicy, you may want to cut down on the red pepper. I also thought these were a bit too salty... but that could just be me personally because I don't like really salty stuff. I would definately recommend trying and tweaking to your preference... I will probably try unsalted crackers next time... but these were great overall. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2011
My boyfriend and I thought this was awesome. I cannot comment on if it tastes like italian beef because I have never had it, but it was really great as a sandwich. I know everyone has their own personal tastes, but I have read several reviews that say this is bland even when they use the beef broth and the extra seasoning packet. I may have a suggestion on how to make the meat more flavorful. Each time I have made this, I always cook it overnight for about 8 hours, then shred it when I wake up, put it in the fridge before I leave for work, and then warm it back up when I get home. I know that kind of takes away from the convenience of having something ready and hot when you get home, but I can almost guarentee this will not be "lacking flavor" if this is done. Maybe the meat just needs to marinate in its shredded form to get the flavor into the meat. Just a suggestion. Very tasty, thank you for sharing. We like ours with provolone cheese, jalepenos, and banana peppers. Sometimes I will saute onions and green peppers... lots of toppings you can use for this!
