Soft Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2008
This cookie is receiving 2 stars because the finished product is flat. Rolling them gives a nicer, more finished edge and a slight increase in height, however, even then we're talking 1/4" high at the most. The texture is their best feature. The flavor is nice and subtle but their appearance is unremarkable. I recommend these for indiscriminate children but not for gatherings or events regardless of formality.

Blueberry French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
I was profoundly disappointed with this recipe after reading all of the wonderful reviews. I followed it precisely as written and it was bland at best. The only redeeming factor was the blueberry sauce which was too sweet...and we love sugar at our house. I would not make this again.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2003
These cookies really are fantastic! I'm known for my culinary skills, so I'm always cautious when trying other recipes. This one helped me keep that reputation! One comment was, "They taste like the cookies you pay a few dollars (each) for in the mall!" They do have a "mild" peanut butter taste so it's great when you bite into one of the peanut butter cup pieces. I did adapt it a little by omitting the cocoa and I used MILK chocolate CHUNKS instead of semi-sweet chocolate CHIPS. Thanks! :o)

Jamie's Minestrone

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2002
I always thought I made a great minestrone...now with some of the additional ingredients found in this recipe, it is simply PERFECT! The only significant change I made to this recipe was omitting the tomato sauce. I used 1 16 oz can of diced tomatoes instead. I then had to increase the wine and broth. I highly recommend this recipe! Thanks Jamie!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2002
I have always gotten excellent reviews on my cheescakes and this one was no exception! I have always had a problem with the top turning dark brown and would cut the top portion off. This recipe was an answer to that problem. It was the perfect color on top and it didn't crack. I used a pan of water on the rack below but only left it in the oven for 1 hour after it was done cooking. (I ran out of time!) I will definately use this recipe from now on.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2002
Whether you prefer thick or thin crust, this is a great recipe! It comes out perfect every time! My husband raves about it and because it's so simple, we now have homemade pizza every week! Thanks Jason!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2002
This is a fantastic pizza sauce! It has the perfect sweet/spicy combination. Normally I don't like spicy things...I head straight for the mild section, however, this was great! I omitted the cayenne pepper and anchovie paste because I didn't have any on hand. I've used it several times now and each time my husband has raved about it! This is the recipe we will use from now on! Thanks! :o)

Zesty Southern Pasta and Bean Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2002
This recipe rescued me in a pinch! It was 11:00pm and I forgot that I had to bring a dish to pass for the next day! This was so simple, I literally threw it together in minutes! I didn't have onion or garlic powder, so I used 1 garlic clove (pressed) and 2 green onions (chopped). It tasted great and looked beautiful! I normally have a very sensative palate when it comes to Mexican flavoring...the milder, the better. With that in mind, I felt that the cumin in this was right on. (I even used the red pepper!) It has a really great "Mexican" flavor that is not overpowering. I will definately keep this and the ingredients on hand to make VERY often! It was also a big hit at the meeting! I even got approval from my Hispanic friend! Thanks for the recipe! :o)

Caramel Peanut Fudge

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2002
This recipe is fantastic! It really does taste like Snickers. Everyone that tried it wanted the recipe! I followed this recipe exactly with one exception...I used only milk chocolate chips for the top and bottom layers. I put it in the freezer to hasten the chill time and it was ready in under 2 hours! Thanks so much!

Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2002
This recipe is truly wonderful! I had never had or made Zuppa Toscana before. My sister said that she always orders this (her favorite) at the Olive Garden and it tasted just like it! I didn't change a thing and have made it for the second time in 5 days! I originally tripled this recipe for my mothers' 50th birthday party. I served it in "Bread Bowls" from this website and got two thumbs up approval from everyone! Which says a lot...my family is Italian! Thank you! :o)

Manicotti Alla Romana

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2002
This recipe was a great success! My family is Italian and I doubled this for my mother's 50th birthday party. I made a 2 pound Italian roast and finely chopped it to a course consistancy instead of using ground beef. I also made alfredo sauce instead of the "white" sauce recommended. It received rave reviews! Everyone wanted the recipe. Also, if you are not a garlic fan, I'd recommend halving the amount called for. It was strong, but we love it that way! Thanks!

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2002
I rate these a 5 for simplicity, appearance and functionability. I received many compliments on them...not just taste, but appearance too! They look like a bakery item when finished, so don't skip the egg wash! Thank you Kerri!

Mocha Biscotti

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2002
Being Italian, I make biscotti often. This recipe is the only one I've ever had a problem with. I followed this recipe exactly as written. I scaled it to make 54 servings thinking I'd make 3 logs and ended up with enough dough for only 2. It then made only 20 edible pieces because they were too crumbly after the first baking and fell apart when I cut them. The coffee was indeed extremely strong and bitter. (Even with the chocolate chips added!) I like the idea of this recipe, however I would strongly recommend cutting the coffee in half and possibly cutting down on the first baking time.

Sugar and Spice Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2002
I am giving this a 4-star because my family really enjoyed them, however, the rest of this review is according to MY taste. They definately had the heaviness and texture of a cake donut...you really need to dunk these to enjoy them. They would have been bland if it weren't for the potent taste of nutmeg. The only way I would make them again is if my husband specifically asked for them.

Taste of Home's Morning Glory Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2002
I loved this recipe for several reasons! The flavor and texture was excellent! The nutritous ingredients make them a hearty, healthy snack or addition to breakfast. Even though these didn't rise like a typical muffin, I wouldn't hesitate to make them again and again! Thank you for submitting this recipe!

Cinnamon Streusel Orange Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2002
This is a fabulous recipe! I received many, many compliments. I made two double batches for a brunch and every single one disappeared! My husband was disappointed that we wouldn't be bringing any home! The good thing is that these are ingredients we have on hand every day, so they will be made often. The texture and flavor were perfect. The orange juice adds a subtle flavor, making them more unique. I accidentally put the cinnamon/sugar mixture in the middle and the brown sugar/butter mixuture on top...they still turned out great! The small amount of extra time they require is more than worth the terrific results! Thanks for submitting this recipe!
