60, last November. Whine about the heat here, every summer. Revel in the mild weather the rest of the year. Been here since 1979 - semi-native. Been cooking since I was twelve. Loved it then; love it now. There's nothing better than that look of contentment on someone's face when they like something you've cooked - just for them!
My favorite things to cook
Ribeye steaks, medium rare on a hot grill. Lightly oiled and salted potatoes, baked until the skin's a little "crackly." Add real butter and a little sour cream. Thin and chewy chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. Pumpkin bread in the fall, also with cream cheese frosting. Everything that says: "Thanksgiving!"
My favorite family cooking traditions
A big pot of navy beans, cooked all day with a hambone. Cornbread, just a little sweet - with the addition of green chiles and sometimes whole kernel corn, fried potatoes with onions and crispy cole slaw.
My cooking triumphs
My family's favorite: Home made lasagna - takes all day - costs a fortune these days, so you better be expecting a horde for dinner!
My cooking tragedies
The Thanksgiving we decided to have "brown and serve" rolls, instead of baking something - I burnt them!!! I'll never live it down!!! Everyone calls them my "burn and serve" rolls.
