E-Z Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
This recipe didn't work for me. I don't think I ended up with the desired texture of dough - It started off very liquidy and took a lot of stirring and a minute or so of letting it sit to get firm enough for me to drop on the pan. It never really rose to anything more than what looked like a cookie, and at the point that I had to take it out to avoid burning the bottom, the top was very pale. The taste was okay, but I'd have definitely preferred the big puffy biscuit I see in others' pictures. I reread the recipe and am sure I did nothing wrong, so I don't know how I got such different results from other reviewers...

Spinach and Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
This made a great picnic side dish! Next time, I will add a little less balsamic, as it was slightly too salty and acidic for my taste.

Grilled Adobo Pork Tenderloin Salad With Plums and Almonds

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
I didn't turn this into a salad, but just used the recipe for the marinated grilled pork and plums. It turned out great, and the leftovers were excellent in a flour tortilla with some sliced avocado and sour cream!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
I made the following changes based on previous reviews: - Add 1 cup of cubed potato and 2 cloves minced garlic.- Cook the vegetables and chicken in chicken broth rather than water. - Reserve and strain same broth to use in gravy. - To gravy add 1/2 tsp. garlic powder and 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning. - Brush bottom crust with egg whites and bake for 5 minutes. Also brush top crust when pie is assembled. - Bake at 375 for 30 minutes. Another note: * With the addition of the potato, I could not fit all of the veggie/chicken mixture into the pie pan, nor could I fit the doubled gravy amount that a couple people suggested. However, I found that baking at the lower temperature kept the filling from turing out too dry. Delish!

Chili I

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
I followed the recipe exactly. I used Yuengling Black & Tan beer. I may add a little more heat or a little less sweet next time, but I'd also be satisfied if I made it again exactly the same way. This is the first thing I have made in the last year of living with my boyfriend that he has actually liked enough to take the leftovers to work the next day! I halved the recipe, but then I was jealous there weren't leftovers for me to take too!

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2002
This did not come out as I expected. I thought the tomatos would cook away more and it would have more of a Chinese food flavor than it did. It tasted good if you are looking for a recipe for a pot roast or something like that, but for pepper steak, I've had better.

Tuscan Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2002
Delicious! But next time I will use something a little firmer than spinach. Maybe kale or something that will give it more texture. Also, I will use real cream instead of evaporated milk.

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2002
This is sooo good, but definitely don't add all of the cream. I made it once with all the cream and it came out bland and watery. The second time I made it, I only put in a tiny bit of milk and it was perfect-- so much more flavorful. It is also delicious with fish (like talapia- though it flakes up a lot) or shrimp.

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2002
I think the baked potatoes gave the soup a funny flavor- they really tasted like potato skin eventhough I took the skin off. I think next time I will just boil the potatoes in some chicken broth and then add the milk to make up the remaining liquid. Also, I will add more scallions, salt, and pepper, as it was a little bland.
